I was just looking at the information bracket for the Z4 and it says maintenance will only cover you for "3 years or 36,000 miles(whichever comes first)"
It got me thinking what will Toyota do

In the U.K. itā€™s 5 years or 100,000 miles. Already confirmed

Will the warranty be a major concern for buyers of the 1st batch of Supra? Iā€™m just thinking about the BMW engineā€™s reliability as well as BMW electronics and electricals, for now, if these major components should make us worry or itā€™s just ok(since itā€™s a Toyota).

If it doesnā€™t have a 100,000/5 year warranty then Iā€™d avoid at all cost. No BMW lasts that long

That's probably why Toyota went with 335 base, it's their way of keeping a smug grin

Iā€™m good with the Supra having less horsepower than the Z4, as long as it will have bulletproof reliability just like the MkIV.
Yea but the MKIV has reliabilty up to 7/800hp on a stock motor...
If Toyota are having to keep this at 335hp to ensure reliabilty then thereā€™s no way itā€™ll have the same reliabilty. Thatā€™s just an impossibility.

The 335hp figure is most likely due to the EU emissions filter, the EU Z4 also has 335hp from what I remember. The US version of the Z4 doesn't have the filter hence the higher power, but from what I've read the US Supra does have the filter, so it isn't "de-tuned" compared to the Z4 due to any potential reliability concerns. Whether or not it will handle very high horsepower on stock internals like the 2JZ will be something that we'll find out soon enough, but I think the stock engine should be very reliable, probably even with a mild tune up to the higher Z4 figure.

Are we talking about warranty or included maintenance?

Typical BMW included maintenance is 3/36k mi (60k km), while the warranty is 4/50k mi (80k kms).

Toyota warranty is usually 3/36k (60k km). I would expect the warranty period on the Z4 will be 1 year longer than it is on the Supra. Lexus offers the longer 4-year warranty.

That said, and here's the important part (in my opinion), BMW's 4/50 warranty is the same for powertrain, while Toyota's is 3/36 for the basic, but powertrain is 5/60k miles. 1 year longer than BMW offers. (Lexus is 6/70k miles).

(Information applicable to Canada/USA only).

Does anyone know if this is indeed the main reason for the HP difference? If it is just a filter, is it then just a matter of swapping the Supra filter with the US/Canada Z4 filter, and achieve the same 382 hp with the Supra B58?

There is no filter in the US for the Z4. It's essentially an add-on for countries with stricter emissions.

Yeah, so if we remove this filter on the Supra, it will have 382 hp?

No.

The Australian Z4 does not have the filter and it only has 335hp as well.

It has nothing to do with the particulate filter as initially thought.
