Alignment, alignment, alignment, alignment. Of course, this takes into account all your bushings and such are in good condition as well.

We've already been discussing this with @Rensuhlo in another setting but I figured I would make this post for informative and discussion reasons here.

Here are some samples of tire wear from my personal supra that is tracked 95% of it's working time and is driven to/from the track. The other 5% is street driving for fun or data logging purposes.

Alignment and relevant modifications:

Front
-3.9 camber
0 toe
Turner caster spherical bushings in OEM caster arms
Verkline LCA
SPL tie rod ends
SPL endlinks
Vorshit camber plates
MCS 2WNR 650lb springs

Rear
-2.5 camber
3mm total toe in
SPL toe arms
SPL traction arms
MCS 2WNR 600lb springs (true coilover)

Tire wear examples

Nankang CRS v2
295/35/18
18x10.5 (I don't suggest this width as this tire and size need at least 11" wide to work well)
Service time: 2 track days, approx 1,000 street miles after 2nd track day, which is why they look so smooth and clean.

Nankand CRS v2
275/40/18
18x10.5
Service time: 5 track days, to/from track street miles

Great pics & thx for sharing! Similar wear and neg camber (front and rear) for me.

Did you drive on those Nankangs any more or retire them all? I specifically have an extra set of Apex wheels & tires that I bring to the track now. So effin’ hard to tell when they’re starting to split. Especially on the Maxxis Victra RC-1. They warm up quickly and grip really well, all the way to cord.

No, the Nankangs turn into liabilities after about 4.5 days of heat cycles. Into the trash they go.

Did some test fitting and driving of my tire transport solution in advance of a trip to VIR. So far so good.... 4th wheel will go in the passenger seat.

I love it!!! That’s a great idea. When you going to VIR? I’ll be there also 11/15 weekend HPDE.

Anybody see the posts on social from successful Supra time trial drivers about Hoosier TAP saying they’re no good? I just read GRM article saying the complete opposite that they’re fast, awesome and basically benchmark-worthy. I just mounted a set and haven’t had them out yet. Anyone have those tires on a track yet and have some feedback good or bad?

Always take GRM testing with a grain of salt, they test on a 2300lb car with .06 hrsprs.

Thanks! I'll provide an update on how it holds up over a long drive. Hopefully there will be nothing of substance to report :) I'll be at VIR 11/22-24, I guess I'll just miss you.

I'd trust @kyle9 and @Slinkii over a miata test.

If you scroll down to the test results, in equal conditions the TAP are about equal to the RE71RS.

This was also in a lightweight low power car. I’d take it with a grain of salt, just like I’d take Kyle and my owns experience with a grain of salt. It’s always going to depend on a lot of variables.

I do find it an interesting choice to not include A052 in the test. (Nankang you can make the case for lack of availability)

I ran a fresh set again at VIR on my corvette and they were still not good. Even tried messing with the BS high tire pressure recommendation.

Either way, comparing on par with a re71rs isn’t exactly groundbreaking. Along with the fact that they seem to HC out extremely fast, I’m personally not buying another set.

That’s what I’m talking about! I was thinking it was either the Miata or possibly some GRM arrangement for good publicity but I thought is was suspicious.

@kyle9 can you direct me to where I might find out more about your rear diffuser/center exhaust magic you have going on?
