EDIT: Im editing this because a lot of people are singling out the part where i mentioned the trash talk, ill make it clear here that i dont care what people have to say about my choice in transmission: I’m happy with my choice, all together i made the post to just see what others thought about the 2 transmissions as a whole for a discussion. To the people that have given me flack towards my choice i shrug off but explain my personal goals as to what i hope to achieve on track ETC.

I also see how the final question i put at the bottom of the post might seem that im asking for thoughts on the “trash talk” but i should have clarified that i was asking for opinions between the 2 transmissions as a whole. Thanks for reading.

I get a lot of trash talk on the choice of transmission (being the ZF8). I made the decision for the 8 speed based off of what ive heard about the transmission itself and what i plan on doing track wise. At the end of the day, its personal preference, but the argument that is said to me all the time is from other “car enthusiasts” saying “imagine getting a sports car and not getting a manual”. I like a manual transmission as much as the next person but for this car i made the sacrifice considering the fact i have a kawasaki which for me is good enough to get the itch of using a manual transmission.

what are any of your thoughts on this as, well as who else got the zf8 transmission?

Why care man?

Spend less time thinking about what other people perceive about you and your choices. You'll live a happier life.
This. The world has suddenly been inundated with affirmation needing, afraid to be different, unable to take criticism soft cocks. What is wrong with people these days?

Just because an opinion is different to yours doesn't mean its an attack or that you should automatically fold and cry yourself to sleep at night.

My thoughts are, the auto is fantastic, I had a hint of buyers regret when driving my friend's auto GR Supra, it even sounds better than the manual which is way too quiet. Enjoy it!

He's in agreement with driftguy. He's saying world is now full of snowflakes constantly seeking approval from everyone to the point of "who cares, do whatever makes you happy, no need for anyone's validation". *Paraphrased ?

I get your point, however i only made the post just to see opinions on the 2 transmissions itself. Im happy with my choice all and all and would choose this transmission again, but i figured why not see what majority of supra owners thought of the 2. The comment i have gotten many times has varied but specifically the one i quoted in the original post was a dig directly to me by someone who has something against me as a whole, i did respond to them with the many reasons of my choice on transmission, but their ego on “its not a real car unless its a manual” has them completely biased on the topic alone. I was about to bite the bullet at the dealership on ordering the manual but i said screw it and got the ZF8 after hearing good things about it. The only thing i wish i had the patience for would have been the stratosphere blue but i didnt want to wait 8 months for the car haha. But again, valid point, i was just hoping to see other peoples opinions on the transmissions as a whole.

I bought my '20 with the world saying "it'll never be available in a manual" after driving several manual cars before it. I also drove one for a weekend before stamping my decision and was blown away at how good the ZF8 was.

Would I trade mine for a manual now? No. Would I if I had to? Probably. Do I regret my decision. Definitely not.

I agree that most manuals do feel better in spirited driving, but lots of performance manufacturers as we've seen have felt otherwise with the continuing evolution of automatics.

Automatics are infinitely better than they were 30, 20 even 10 years ago. The ZF8 has been proven in numerous makes and models for nearly 2 decades now and it's a great transmission. But don't take my word for it:

However, I do have a soft spot in my heart for manuals. I will own another someday.

I owned an auto for 2 years and now have a manual. You really can't go wrong. To the OP, don't worry about the haters. People always talk.

If you get an auto you get chewed on about not being a driving "ethusiast"

You get a manual you get "auto is faster" blah blah

Both cars are GREAT...if you love your Auto just enjoy the heck out of it. It's freakin awesome. If you love the manual like I do oh gosh it's fun as a manual should be.

Both are fast. In the grand scheme of things remember the golden rule of racing. "There's always someone faster, so what's the point?"
