I have 58k miles on MY2020 - my oil level still reads fine and oil pressure is normal on idle and under wot.

Normal oil pressure at idle is 2.3-2.7 bar
Under wot the oil pump will normally not exceed 5.5 bar

In North America at least. Remember the EU still use 2-port, but I am assuming with the latest updates.
100%. I loosely referred to this info being North America focused in one of my earlier responses, but I should have reiterated it for good measure. (Get it? Measure. I’ll see myself out).

Great info. It’s interesting how much the issue varies. What is the production date of your car?

@kern417 (I follow your very helpful YouTube channel) do you see any point in more formally capturing data in a spreadsheet between Supra and the BMW owners? Oil, weight, climate, mileage, production dates, etc. BMW of course has all this information and our ability to influence will be limited… so I’m not sure if it’s worth the effort, but could be interesting.

Update: dropped my car off 11/12/24 got a call 2 days later on 11/14/24. Service advisor told me that the oil pump was ordered and currently waiting for parts to arrive they did not provide me with an ETA. The whining noise concern I have as-well has not been addressed yet, they will look into it after the oil pump is replaced. Thankfully powertrain warranty is covering the oil pump replacement and rental vehicle.

i'm not sure either. we have at least identified the issue, but failures seem to be sporadic. after every video i make, someone messages me saying their car has a million miles with no issues, the problem is blown out of proportion, etc.

i think at this point, realistically we're all doing the right thing. monitor oil pressure, check oil levels, and report it to your dealer if you see a trend in the wrong direction. on my X7, oil level didn't read the first time i tried, but worked the 2nd time. i'm in the monitor stage currently.

Edit: I'm also still not confident that there is a new design oil pump. imo it was a bad batch(es) of pumps that went out.

On Bimmerpost I’ve seen at least one person mention they had a whining noise coming from the oil pump (along with inability to measure), which was resolved after replacement, so hopefully that’ll take care of it for you.

Ha well, “blown out of proportion” is a bit subjective, but there’s obviously some sort of problem. I also wonder how many bad oil pumps are out there undiscovered because there’s likely a significant percentage of owners who do not regularly check the oil level.

Interesting on the X7… that would be rather unfortunate as you just bought it, but also not terribly surprising. Have you tried to check the oil pressure? I haven’t dug into the appropriate ranges, but I’m sure it’s listed in ISTA.

Agreeing on the bad batch/design question. Root cause is TBD.

I have 3/2020 production MY2021 Supra which would fall squarely in range of what’s been reported, but it only has 4000 miles so this is more of an academic interest. And maybe minimal data that failures are more correlated to use than time, but that was probably obvious.

that'll be my next step moving forward. i'm really just getting situated with the car, then will get into logging and data collection over the coming weeks.

X7 is also 03/20 production, but 2 port TU. temps are dropping quick and it lives outside the garage, so we'll see how things go.

Update, I got a call saying my car was ready, I picked it up from the dealership 11/18/24.
From the looks of it everything looks good now. Oil reads correctly and no more whining noise, so I guess the 2 were related which is good. I'm glad the cars back and that it only took about a week to complete the repairs and thank god for warranty. On the Repair order / invoice everything was priced out to about $2400. Glad it got situated

Awesome. Yeah, it’s a fairly big job as the subframe has to be dropped.

did you have to return it to stock in terms of downpipe?

yes I did, I had a catless downpipe when I first took it, technician advised me to go back to stock because the downpipe was causing the high oil pressure code according to him lol (the downpipe had nothing to do with it) But once back to stock they had no issue doing repairs. ?

yeah I've heard and seen videos, I asked my service advisor for pictures of them doing the job but didn't get any unfortunately

I took my car to Toyota as I'm still covered under powertrain warranty.
Have a 2021 3.0 Supra with just a catless downpipe, no tune and cosmetic mods.

As for the whining noise, it sounds similar to a bad alternator whining only happens at low speeds below 15mph and also when stationary giving it gas to about 1k-2.5k RPM. Happens only on the passenger side behind the dash so around the turbo area / backside of engine. I saw one post on these forums about the same noise I'm experiencing and it turned out to be the transmission and ultimately got replaced under warranty.

Today is 10/30/24, I will be taking the car back to Toyota on 11/5/24 once I put the OEM downpipe back on and hopefully get repairs started for the oil pump and an answer for the whining noise.

Thought Id make this thread to post updates on progress / how long it takes and to see what repairs Toyota makes to my car.
If anyone else has experienced a similar whining noise any input would be appreciated and has anyone been denied repairs from Toyota for similar concerns of course not being heavily modified.

Just double checking, but did you hear this whine when you pulled away from a light? Did it feel like you lost a little power for a second? I'm trying to diagnose a similar whine with my 2020 and want to get it sorted before the warranty is out.

Also how often did it happen? I tried having my inde shop take a look but they couldn't replicate it, but of course I hear it when I'm driving home..
