A 6 sec delta between the M2 and M2C is a pretty significant improvement. You're talking about with 7:40-45 with a stock MKV, not like the VLN Supra that had some mods, right? I dunno, we shall see.
Ye stock, since Tada said its around 7:40 car and A70TTR mentioned the prototype did 7:38 so I guess a +~5-7s for production model seem resonable.
Between M2 and M2C... I thought there were more changes that affect "speed" between the two. I really wanna see more times from shorter tracks. MKV will be slower on straigh ttho, esp on higher speeds.

Theres a big difference between saying its a 7:40 ring car, and actually putting down that time. For all anyone nows right now, it could be an 8 min plus car. Its just speculation untill it actually does an official time lap.

The MKV has had loads of opportunities to do so. So why hasn't it done it yet? If a modified mkiv owner can put down a 7:18 ring btg in traffic time ... Why cant the allmighty big and powerful toyota put down one simple lap time for its new flag ship its been developing for years?

Most other manufacturers have the ring time BEFORE LAUNCH. Just get the hell on with it toyota - drop the damn hype already and put your money where your mkv mouth is - your calling yourselves "gazoo racing Meister of NĆ¼rburgring(grmn)" -- now prove it.
I've always had the urge to shove my excrement up mouths of people such as you are, but for this one, you get my vote.

My thoughts on this...

I 100% agree with everything he said. From owning various Toyotas, to love of the 90's cars, to owning a Porsche 997, to having back seats just for random stuff, to having a manual gearbox, to having cross shopped with cars in the MKV's price point, to avoiding the 1st production, to not believing that BMW would share M technology with the Supra, to buy a Cayman or an M2C.

The M2C is such a fantastic car. So engaging to drive. Which I find really impressive given its weight. BMW did a great job tuning the suspension/chassis. The S55 is a great powerplant too. My only complaint would be its sound. Which definitely isn't as good as the N55, but it isn't bad by any means. Oh, and don't get me started on the muffler. I mean, couldn't they have figured something else out that doesn't hang down like some robot scrotum?

I actually had a order in for a 2020 M2C in Hockenheim Silver with DCT. Unfortunately circumstances changed and I had to cancel it. Now the fun car will come next year. Which I'm fine with since it will give me ample time to consider all my options. Including the MKV Supra. Can't wait to find out how it compares. Definitely don't expect the same level of practicality, but also wouldn't mind since it would be a secondary car.

I really do love the S55, other than the noise it makes and the crank hub issues which has yet to be remedied from the factory. I also don't love the fact that it doesn't actually handle THAT well. It feels very nice, but it does not actually have as much grip as one might expect.

For me a lack of grip when you want it is part of what I found so fun about it for street use. I could see that getting annoying on the track though. However, I don't race any of my cars. So I can remain blissfully unaware :p

Being an M2 Comp owner and prospective Supra buyer, I found this to be a good read if you can get past the verbose writing style:

https://www.pistonheads.com/features/ph-features/toyota-gr-supra-vs-bmw-m2-competition/40632

Makes me wish the Supra offered an MT even more. While BMW manuals aren't world class, the clutch and shifter in the M2 is above average for a BMW and I feel like it would be great in a Supra. The Supra beats the M2 on looks, cockpit, ride, comfort, and features, and all for less money here in the US (comparing MSRP). Where the M2 shines is in raw capability, fun factor, and pure execution but the Supra could gain more of that with an MT.

I drove the M2C and Supra back to back a couple weeks ago and the Supra felt every bit as fast to me, despite having less power "on paper". We know the actual horsepower of both cars is underrated, but the M2C weighs 200# more than the Supra so even if the M2C has more power, it's also pushing more weight.

I'm waiting for Throttle House to compare these two cars -- I feel like Thomas knows how to drive the M2C (and he's driven the Supra too). The dude in the video above was fighting the M2C in corners way more than an experienced driver does. Look at some of the Throttle House videos with the M2C and Thomas makes it look easy.

From that video comparison of the BMW M2 Comp 6MT and the Supra MKV I just like BOTH cars so much.

The Supra has the superior chassis and seems to put down power more efficiently. And itā€™s power is known to be underrated. Itā€™s lovely to see that car do what it does best.

The BMW may be twitchier at the limit and wilder over all and its manual transmission does cause a pause each time the driver shifts... but those are all appealing and charming qualities also.

In a track race the times they both put down are significant. In normal driving though it seems it would come down to personal preference.
