Has anyone ridden in a Tesla Plaid?

I have a pretty basic Supra build with a JB4 and it feels great. Then I had a ride in a Tesla plaid. Yikes. It’s so sterile and ugly and horrid and then it slams you in the seat with 1000cc motorcycle acceleration. I hated how much I love it. Wish I could have one with the Supra.

Agreed. But that one trick is no joke. Surprised there aren’t more of them wrecked. Putting a 9 second car in the hands of the public with decent (not bad. Not good. Probably not enough for the speed and weight of the car) brakes is wild.

The brakes do give out quickly on them in stock form. No way are they up to the task of repeatedly slowing something that heavy, and that fast. A rather terrifying notion.

..and yes, a pony that has ONE trick. Might be a great one, but you're still stuck with a fat, ugly, dumb pony the other 99.9% of the time.

Then why do you have the Supra? I guess you took care of the now-all-too-common design of the Tesla.?
I see massive cyber trucks all the time, and am terrified at the combination of mass and speed. If one hits any of our cars at even 80 mph, we are toast!

EVs are super quick but for me they lack some hard to define soul. I just prefer the orchestral mechanical complexity of an IC engine and transmission. The good news is there’s something for everyone so buy and drive whatever makes you smile.

oh. On this I do have a LOT of experience. I have owned 7 iterations of the Tesla car in 10 yrs and was part of the founders version of the model S. Currently there are 3 Teslas at home (and my Supra)

On the track, yes. They brakes over heat. I installed brake ventilation ducts and that helped a lot. Still is too heavy for track, but that is not really what was designed to do.

What you call the 1% is actually a great deal on daily driving. I’m the king on the street and the highway. Nobody can get off the green light as fast and as smoothly as I can. Nobody can overtake in the highway as efficiently as I can. Nobody can make left or right turns in intersections in the way I can. Your supercars, great cars, regular cars. My street performance is par to none.

the other “99%” of the car is actually more advantages than disappointmentments:

- there is zero maintenance cost. Not even brake pads because the regen braking prolongs the life of your pads and disks. No oil, fluids, sparks, no transmission. Nothing.

- is cheap to operate. Here in FL we have a program that gives unlimited charging for $30. Remember I told you I have 3 cars? My monthly *fuel* expenses are $10 per car.

- it has a great ecosystem (integrates well with apple) and the app keeps my family fleet in check all the time. I know state of charge, speed, destination, I can see through each of the 8 cameras the car has 24/7 from any part of the world.

- Assisted driving. This one is a godsend. I live in a huge city, my daily commute is 15 miles on an average of 45 min at peak hour traffic. That stop and go that people neglect to mention when they buy manual cars? I set the autopilot and the car takes care of it. Very accurate. I haven’t taken over in about a month.

- I have a teenager daughter. Is her first car. Because of the points above, and the fact that I can set parental controls on the car (limit speed, acceleration, curfew) this is the perfect car for a family.

the infotainment system is way way ahead of anything in the market right now.

Yes is not a sexy fire breathing dragon, that and for the track, that’s my Supra. For the rest of the days, my Plaid is king.

I have the Supra because people can have gas (ICE) cars and EVs and enjoy the benefits of both at the same time.

that misconception that Car enthusiasts HAVE to hate EVs or that EV lovers HAVE to hate ICE cars is not very sophisticated.

Perhaps you have not encountered a Lucid Sapphire. According to Car & Driver magazine writers/vehicle testers, the Sapphire is the EV king of VIR in their overall list of fastest track times. Of course, it is well behind the McLaren Senna, but that is a very expensive car.

the brakes actually take a while to wear on an EV. don't forget it's not just the brakes stopping the car but the regeneration of the electric motor. its the tires that wear fast.
