Has anyone discussed this with your local Toy dealership? I know when I purchased my FR-S (late 2012) when it first came out ... there was no premium placed on the car by the dealership. Maybe it was that Scion Pricing deal. 6 months ago .... I spoke to the local Toy dealership and they had no answers.

Just wondering if the dealerships may ask a premium since it's a new release. They didn't on the FR-S. Hopefully ... I can go into the dealership. Place a fully refundable deposit to get on the list. Then pay no more than MSRP. Am I dreaming?

Toyota dealerships don't have Scion pricing model so can mark up over MSRP. With such a legendary nameplate and such built up demand for its return, you can be sure we'll see examples of markups and price gouging by some dealers.

Yea you can probably place a refundable deposit and get a list but if you don't get that "no more than MSRP" in writing, when these cars finally start hitting dealerships and that dealer realizes a crazy demand for it, don't be surprised if they mark yours up over MSRP. So find a dealer that's willing to guarantee your spot at MSRP. Have them give it to you in writing, even if they just write it on the deposit receipt.

Taking guesses on how much the first ones to hit dealerships will be marked up. I say we'll see $10k over easily on the first first few.

$3k - $10k+ was the mark up on the first set of Ford Focus RS. So I see the same happening here.

Well ... I'm not accustomed to paying a premium on the early cars. Not worth it. Rather be patient and order one at msrp. Just need to do some research.

^ same I'd rather wait and spend that extra money on some mods. So long as there are people willing to pay it, the dealerships will keep this pattern going.

Just spoke to one of the sales managers at the Toyota dealership where I leased my FR-S. He told me that he recently attended a sales meeting where the Supra was discussed. He's saying that the Supra will be available latter part of next year as a '19. Nothing we didn;t know already.

I inquired about leaving a deposit. He said they have no vin #'s to allow deposits at this time. We traded contact information and I was advised to check in every 4-6 months.

It's a start.

Nice to hear dealers talking about it already. Makes it seem closer than it really is.

Now someone show the production car to a dealer so it can be inevitably leaked

with the rate they're going with this car, my goal is to own one by 2020. Maybe 2019 if they aren't asking for premiums then. - That is 'if' the car is even out by then.

All depending on what is to come.

That's the big if.

Regarding purchase after launch, it should only take 4-6 months before you can readily find cars without markup. Ford Raptor and NSX are pretty good recent examples. If you shop hard you can even order a Raptor at a discount from MSRP. Acura I suspect will be offering discounts on NSX by year end. That said, there will be plenty of dealers sitting on their $10k and $20k adjustments for many months.

Guys, although this ship has already sailed away for me, I just spoke with a friend of mine who works for Toyota dealership. He said Toyota just gave them an introductory speech about the new Supra replacement, telling them there will be two models, 4 cylinder turbo priced between $40-50K and a 6 cylinder (I think turbo also?) priced around $70-80K. Toyota didn't share much detail, but looks like they are giving heads up to dealers. I didn't ask my friend many questions, since details were not shared with dealers. But it looks like it may be more real than not since they would not be telling dealers anything unless it's coming soon to a theater near you!

My friend was asking me if I'm still interested to place an order....

Edit; sorry 6 will be $70-80.
