Does anybody know torque value for these 4 brace bolts?
There's a thread around here dedicated to it. The short version is:
* Toyota says 56Nm
* BMW says 56Nm + 90 degrees and that you are to replace the bolt

When I removed mine I stepped up the torque wrench until they removed without it clicking. I know this is NOT the way to tell what something was torqued to but it's an indication. If I remember right I was in the 30's or so, they were hardly tight at at all. It's considered a structural component, but since a bunch of cars came without them it's probably not too structurally important. Also if you go to 56Nm and get a feel for that, another 90 degrees to me feels like they'll strip out.

Necro: They have a strut brace built in. This is engine eye candy.

OK, you might be right. Where?

As for eye candy, hardly, they're stupidly ugly. It's odd they want you to replace the bolt and TTY if it's eye candy.

You might be right but it'd help if you had something more to back up that assertion.

It was actually another post in this Forum from a year ago.

“Every Supra already has a proper strut bar triangulated to the firewall. Even 2020’s. It’s under the weather stripping and windshield wiper plastics.” - Razorlab

I bought the Racing Bees one and now I don’t think I really like how it looks but it’s whatever. I barely ever look under the hood.

There is indeed some sheet material connecting the strut towers to the firewall, and I'm sure it's strong. These bars obviously head frontwards, basically landing at another piece of sheet metal, the big flat one we all have, which also is apparently structural. The new bars either helped with performance (even if somewhat hard to tell), or maybe it had to do with crash protection somehow?

Sure, maybe they don't do anything at all, but I find it hard to believe both manufacturers decided to add parts, revise BOM's, revise production processes, etc. for something that ugly for no reason. I think their appearance and construction tells you they was considered to be needed and done as cheaply and quickly as possible.

(Nothing bad would happen if you didn't have them. I just find it more likely we don't know what minor benefit they were intended to provide, as opposed to them actually being purely cosmetic.)

I mean, I think it’d cosmetic for daily use. It’s kinda like a wing where it may help with certain applications but not under most driving scenarios.
