I'm talking to a few dealerships right now about a 2020 Supra. I've heard if the dealership has updated the ECU it can be locked. Is there a simple way I can ask the dealer to check the ECU status? Also do you guys know how common it is for a dealership to update ECUs?

They probably updated it at the time of the DCM update service campaign.

I believe there are physical hardware differences between the pre and post june 2020 ECUs, so you should still be able to bench unlock it.

If you have a MHD Universal WiFi adapter or a USB C/Lightning to Ethernet and an enet cable (about $20~), you can download the MHD app and run the bench unlock check for $0. The bench unlock will be far cheaper than femto.

edit: You could ask what ISTEP update the car is currently at, and that would give you an idea if it's been updated. If its 2021 or newer, you'll have your answer ;D

Wait so just to clarify, the dealer update doesn't matter for a 2020? I can just take it to a shop and they'll know what to do?

Dealer updates can lock the DME but since it's a 2020, you just need to get it bench unlocked instead of sending it all the way to Femto.

So either purchase an unlocker yourself or find a shop that can do it for you.

I use the Mission Unlocker with mine but I like doing things myself.

Do you still have the mission unlocker?
