I can’t find any info on break-in requirements. My rule of thumb is usually keep the rpms below 4K the first 1,000 miles but I for one was at red line the first 5 minutes in the car.

What should I do? Drive it like I stole it or drive like Miss Daisy is in the car?

I was wondering that as well. I think if you baby it just a little for the first 100-200 you should be fine. Just make sure the car is warmed up before stomping on it.

The rule of thumb for the previous generations of non-M BMW motors used to be 1000Km under 4Krpm. Not sure if the newest B58 still requires the same.

I'm breaking the car in the way I plan on driving it. We'll see what, if any, difference it makes. I've broken in my last 2 cars this way with no issues.

I was told for the first 1200km drive easy and keep it under 4500 rpm and if I use cruise bounce up and down a few km every 5 min or so.
PS when you turn this car on its an incredible sound ;):flame:

Same philosophy here. My drive home I took it easy, made sure no weird issues/noises. Then after that initial drive I let her rip.

I will be changing the oil after the 1200mi mark indicated in the manual (or first track day), whichever comes first.

FWIW, Toyota roll drum tests their cars 100% (I'd imagine this car is no different) which consists of a 100% throttle pull to 80 then full ABS activation. So it's not like your car hasn't already seen full boost and redline.

I was told yesterday that launch control mode will not operate until you have 1200 miles on it, so that's probably what they consider to be the break in period.

This might be true, because BMW also do this with their cars.

New motors (with pistons), don't like to be abused, lugged, redlined, or driven at static rpms for long periods. On the last motor I built, for the first 30 kms I ran it for about 60 seconds in 1000rpm intervals. 2000rpm at 60 seconds, then 3000rpm at 60 seconds, etc all the way to 6k and back again, for 30kms. Then took it home and changed the oil, and then drove it for 2 days continuously to get to the Japanese Classic Car Show in Long Beach CA. Also changed my oil at 1000km again... on the side of side the road somewhere in northern Cali...

The road trip part is optional lol

Wow, you did the actual proper break in. Last motor I built was earlier this year for the 24 hours of Lemons. Complete striped down motor, finished it right before the race threw it in the car, drove it around the block, packed it into the trailer and went racing. Made it the entire 14 hours and finished 3rd. Engine was a BMW M52, they are a pretty reliable engine as long as you keep them cool.
