Not sure why it takes them so long unless they are learning as they go -- BMW dealers have turned vehicles around in a couple of hours for me.

it's called sleep mode. The car has to be hooked up to the laptop via the special Supra only cable. Depending on the technician, it takes 2-3 hours. Then the car is driven. We were briefed on the procedure by Toyota a month ago.

mine went through calibration for adaptive cruise sensor/radar sensor. and I was also told even though they were ready for software etc. they still needed to additional cable. Luckily, next door they have BMW dealer so I at least didn't have to wait for that..

Found the official record:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ~|~
DURING THE PDI, FOUND THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE WARNING MESSAGES DISPLAYED. CHECK AND ADVISE. ~|~
PREFORMING PDS, HARD FAULTS FOR UPPER AND LOWER RADIATOR SHUTTER INTERNAL COMMUNICATION FAULTS (NOT EQUIPPED) 21B056 & 21B055. NO WARNING MESSAGE DISPLAYED FOR THIS CONCERN. WHILE DRIVING, WARNING MESSAGES DISPLAY THAT DRIVER SUPPORT SYSTEMS ARE REDUCED, ~|~
DIAG HAS FOUND THAT THE FRS WAS OUT OF ADJUSTMENT. PREFORMED ADJUSTMENT OF MILLIMETER WAVE RADAR SENSOR, INSPECTION PROCEDURE FOUND THE SENSOR WAS 1.6 DEGREES OUT OF ADJUSTMENT. AFTER INSPECTION, PREFORMED NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS AND RECALIBRATED FRS. 88717
FRS probably means Front Radar Sensor.

Mine had 5 miles on it when I drove it home. They only mentioned updating via laptop.

When I took my civic home, it was 3 miles from delivery truck and 4 miles after they did PDI and fill car will gas. I may not get a car at such low mileage again.

Toyota dealer tech here. I was assigned as 1 of the 2 techs at my dealership to handle anything supra related.

As others have mentioned the car is delivered in "transportation mode" to prevent the electricals draining the battery.

To delete transportation mode requires connecting the vehicle to a laptop and following a specific set of steps to remove it from transport mode. This process for the 1st time can take about 1-2 hours.

Than there's the actual pre- delivery inspection process to check every component on the vehicle works and nothing is missing.

Than we also have to initialize the tire pressure monitor system which requires driving the vehicle for a minimum of 9 minutes so the computer can store the information.

The supras navigation maps have to be activated through a website. The dealership is responsible for handling this. The technician working on the car has to go to a website to submit a order for a navigation activation key.

All orders are processed in Europe based on the European time zone. We are told that it may take up to 3 business days for the orders to process and activation keys to be sent out. Activation keys are sent out electronically. It is not a physical disc or sd card.

Once the activation keys are sent out electronically than the supra navigation system can be activated by connecting the vehicle to the ISTA software using the laptop and special diagnostic cable to activate it.

In some cases the ignition must be off for a minimum of 3 minutes for the vehicle to complete the update after being activated.

You would think the navigation code could be requested way before the car arrives at the dealer. :dunno: Since that might be the biggest hold back from delivery to owner.

Like I said, my navigation system still doesnā€™t work.

Navigation activation codes generally are supposed to be ordered prior to receiving the vehicle. All that is needed is the VIN# of the vehicle.

However at my dealership the supra certified technicians were never given the vin # ahead of time. I suspect that is the case for many other dealerships.

That is why many of you are experiencing extra hold times even after the vehicle has arrived at the dealership. The technician assigned to do the PDI on your supra wasn't able to get the VIN until the vehicle was finally in his hands.

Also the navigation system in the supra is completely different than any other Toyota due to the fact that it has you be activated via placing a order for a activation code. This is very unlike Toyota. All of our vehicles with navigations come with the navigation already working. No need to get a activation code from overseas.

It's a completely new vehicle based on BMW architecture so there's a learning curve with this vehicle for us Toyota technicians.

Yeah I have the VIN for mine already thatā€™s tied to the shipping progress... my dealership has already sold one LE and mine is next to come. Gonna remind them about making nav request early! Lol

I wanted to check with the techs on the forum, but my dealer says the physically need the car to request the code necessary to activate the nav system. Is that BS? Because I donā€™t trust the dealership entirely.

They only need your VIN to order the nav code. They would need your car in order to load the nav into your car
