It's been months since we had our first look at the interior of the Toyota Supra prototype and this second look shows an interior that's been changed and updated. The dashboard, center console and steering wheel are no longer from the BMW parts bin (compare to the older photos below) and now appear to draw influence from the Lexus RC Coupe.

However, BMW parts can still be seen -- the automatic transmission shifter and iDrive controller knob, for example. The screen placement is also very BMW-like.

We also get a great first look at the seats, which feature a very modern and sporty look while being thin (great for feel) and has heavy bolstering.

im a little confused, the first 2 pics show rhd but all of the mules we've seen thus far have been lhd..also how can you say that these new pics feature less bmw parts when even more of the dash is covered and the same bmw automatic gear shifter & heads up interface are still there? and where is the rc inspiration you're referring to?

rip physical handbrake (and possibly manual)

The interior clearly features less BMW parts now compared to the first interior spied, which had its entire dash, gauges, center console, etc. straight out of a BMW. To us, the shape and configuration of the updated dash and center console is somewhat reminiscent of the RC.

Oooh nice! The straight, center AC vent is indeed a bit Lexus-y, as are the seats. Granted, it's not much to go on though. I'm just happy there's a Toyota logo on the steering wheel, keeps me reassured that this is actually happening haha!

I was really starting to lose hope that we were gunna see a BMW with a Toyota badge on it. So this makes me happy, not happy about still seeing that damn shifter/idrive controller. That's almost guaranteeing it will be a BMW power train?

Any update on 2 seater vs 4 seater?
nope, but when we find out it will most likely be posted here.

There's Apparently a Chance the New Toyota Supra Will Be Automatic Only
Wait. What?

Want to know two words that will make any car fan way too angry? "Automatic only." Want to make them laugh? Tell them that Toyota's new Supra will be "coming back soon." Want them to be really mad and laugh at the same time? We have a solution.

According to Autocar, the next Supra, which is a hybrid sports coupe developed alongside a new BMW roadster, may only be available with an automatic transmission.

Seriously! For true! But why?

The Supra will allegedly be a hybrid all-wheel drive system similar to the super capacitor setup in Toyota's TS030 Le Mans race car. A source told Autocar that setup means that it's probable that the Supra (or whatever Toyota calls the car) will only be available with an automatic.

That's truly unfortunate, but also not entirely unexpected. As far as we know, there have been three–yes, count 'em, three–hybrids with manual gearboxes, and all were made by Honda. The Insight, CR-Z, and Civic Hybrid are also not what you'd call high-powered sports cars.

Does it stink that the Supra might not have a manual? Of course it does. Will it be quicker (and probably better?) with an auto than a manual? Most definitely. Were a ton of the last Supras automatics? Totally.

But perhaps there'll be hope for a manual version if the hybrid system is removed. A Supra Superleggera, anyone?

Why would a Toyota get BMW i-Drive? This doesn't make sense. They're still very clearly pulling stuff out of a parts bin, for testing or whatever purposes.

Why would BMW allow a 3rd party product to share explicit BMW parts and features? Next thing they're going to put all their knobs and switches into a Kia, maybe Mercedes Benz? Talk about brand dilution.

And then the whole "automatic only" thing sounds like BS. We've even got shots of a stick!

Autocar reporting is not what it used to be. So much reporting of speculation as fact. And then R&T brings on Jalopnik crew which makes a living by regurgitating the speculation with no actual sources.

..brand dilution was bound to happen the moment an economy brand teamed up with a luxury brand for a car with an economy badge..either way, it doesn't bode well that none of the Supra mules have featured a stick.

Still holding out hope for shared transmissions only. That way we get a DCT and a manual 6 speed option. But happy to see a Toyota badge. Steering wheels seemed to be shared + new wheels on that pro-type.
I think these pics are a pretty good confirmation that there'll be no DCT. That's a BMW automatic transmission shifter we can see. DCT doesn't even have much of a future in the BMW lineup. The next gen M5 has already been confirmed it's ditching the DCT for an 8 speed auto. :(

So looks like the Supra will get a manual and an 8 speed ZF auto as the transmission options.

I don't see it. Just because there is one sweeping panel on one side of the tunnel and it once again has vertical vents (which most manufacturers use anyways) it makes it RC inspired? Guess I need to get lasik surgery as the only identifiable items I see are still entirely BMW.
