I have three vehicles with b58 engines. I have found to go ahead and change them hot so the oil drips out all the way and just put in a full 7 quarts. If you do that you'll never have a low oil message. If you try to get in the 6.7 to 6.9 q for some reason they always seem to pop up. Just my two cents don't go beyond that though.

i drain the oil hot and let it drip for 30+ min and put in exactly 6.5L and have never gotten a low oil message. adding extra oil can stress out seals but doubt 0.1-0.2L extra would harm much anyways.

I overfill by a quart. The pan is deep.

You all are seriously over thinking this stuff. A mm or two or three either way won’t make a damn bit of difference. You all have had cars with dipsticks before, right? Notice how big the normal range is on a dipstick. Even on our cars without a dipstick the computer isn’t worried about oil level until it’s a full quart low. And a small amount above the factory 6.9 quarts or 6.5 liters is not going to cause any problem whatsoever.

Worrying about.1 or .2 liters or letting the oil drip for 30+ minutes is just not necessary. If you live in the US, drain until it’s just a slow drip, put in 7 quarts and go on with life.

y’all are ignoring the elephant in the room here: special editions require the special edition oil, so if you’re not using that the car is likely toast. /s

Had an oil change about 4,600 miles ago, i daily the car and commute to work. i do an oil change around 5000 miles, today on my way to work i received a minimum oil level notification, never had an oil problem till now. (14600 miles) i do push the car pretty every other day typically only at night, is this oil consumption normal? i dont smell anything like oil burning. i have to drive home after work then will be doing an oil change monday and wont be driving the car till then. also, i used 5w40 my last oil change as it was peak summer and i live in Florida.
Going to 5K miles and slightly under filling oil level after an oil change can put you at that “add 1 quart” message just from normal oil consumption by manufacturer specs.

The best way to measure the oil after an oil change is by an App using the OBD port in mm.

- 100% (6.6 liters) = 97+mm full ….full
- 100% (iDrive max) = 97-85mm
- 75% = 84mm
- 50% = 82mm
- 25% = 81mm
- 0% (iDrive min) = 78mm (add 1 quart)

I would say you’re fine, very common scenario. Do your own oil changes going forward and measure through OBD port.

Gotcha sounds good. it said it was at minimum and on the level it was right beneath minimum, i added a quart just now and drove it around for a good bit and then retested it and it said just right below the max bar.

Just do your own oil change lol takes out so much guess work. Can’t trust people to do oil changes lol
