Rapid Designs A90 Supra Differential Brace

Received my brace about an hour ago. Came with a chunk out of the finish and a dent which had to have happened after the power coating and before shipment based on paint missing and the shipment box looking fine. I'm assuming this won't cause an issue with rust (but I'm not sure what metal this is)?

Hi there!

That is purely cosmetic and deemed passing due to the fact that it is non-visible when mounted and smaller than my quality standard.

Also, the brace itself is 6061-T6 Aluminum, so no it will not rust.

So gear whine is essentially the noise you hear from gears meshing together. Every car has it but it is typically masked from the factory due to soft bushings and other NVH countermeasures.

In the Supra's case, gear whine isn't heard due to the incredibly soft differential bushings from the factory. These bushings are a double-edged sword in that NVH is decreased, but the propensity of the bushing to fail as well as negative effects from a performance driving standpoint is quite prominent. For example, wheel hop, a vague rear-end feeling, and a slower throttle response.

If you prefer more of a sportier driving characteristic or track your car, then NVH is less of a concern. Hence the reason people install stiffer bushings or a brace.

Tl;dr, the brace connects the diff rigidly to the subframe which transmits gear whine from the differential to the subframe and thus to the chassis and your ears. That being said, most people will barely notice it if at all.
