Everybody post what your out the door price was on your Supra and which dealership? :) I have gotten two prices, $54k for a base and $59k for a prem, both at World Toyota in GA. I am thinking I can get it even lower.

Skip OTD and focus on the selling price of the vehicle only, not including taxes, trades, fees, etc, otherwise it's impossible to compare. OTD prices are super specific to the car/person/deal/location and rarely of any use when comparing.

And if a dealer only wants to talk about OTD prices, chances are that they are trying to obscure the numbers, so make sure they break it out.

The other thing that's very difficult with OTD price to determine is what is sales tax in your state? Hard to tell if you are getting a good deal if your sales tax is lower or higher compared to others. Are you trading in because that would remove some of your sales tax from your purchase? Does this include any type of extended warranty, most likely not as that is done in financing and not on the sales floor? Too many variables with your number you provided. I'm with Doc if i cant see the numbers to do a full break down who knows what fees for documentation and other stealership fees might be included.

I always done it with OTD and was told that way. That way you know what your exactly paying. If you focus on selling price and then they add extra stuff like dealership markup and etc. Thatā€™s not helping you either. I agree on the sales tax part.

How can they obscure the numbers when you already know what you want to pay total for the car? Itā€™s more obscuring if you just focus on selling price of the car.

I didnā€™t make the thread clear, OTD price not including trade in or etc.

If you take OTD and remove taxes, fees, trades, markups, warranties, etc -- which is required to get a comparable number to gauge deals other people are getting around the country -- then you are talking about the selling price of the car. In which case OTD is not really helping at all, so skip the math exercise and just look at the selling price of the car. .

If you want to be educated about it, be sure to understand the invoice price of the car (what the dealer pays) and holdback (what the dealer receives as a rebate/incentive after the sale), so you know what kind of deal you are getting relative to MSRP. That is the real set of numbers that matter when trying to get a deal. Those are numbers that can be compared nationwide for most car brands.

On top of the sale price of the vehicle, a dealer can add processing fees, markups, etc. The customer should understand those and be able to gauge whether they are fair or not. You want to understand those individually, and negotiate on them just like you negotiate on the sale price of a vehicle. If a dealer tries to tack on a $599 processing fee for example, fight it or negotiate it if you don't agree with that. (For example, my local BMW dealer is "required by corporate" to tack on a processing fee and sell winter mats and paint protection, so I always make them eat that cost).

OTD is a common tactic dealers use to obscure the numbers. Another is focusing on the monthly payment, whether finance or lease. All of these create a black box effect. If you are an educated customer, one who can run the math independently (ie, bring a laptop with a spreadsheet) then you can play this game back at them, but my experience is that very few customers are able to do this (which is a pity, as it's simple math, even for a lease).

As far as knowing what you are paying, everybody gets that number on the bottom line of the sales sheet if they bother to look. Doesn't matter how you negotiate or whether it's a good/bad deal, you can always see that number on the bottom line. It is not a useful number to compare with other buyers however, given differences in taxes, fees, market pricing, regional incentives, etc. The only reason I look at that number is to check the math, but it's not a number that is useful for negotiations because so many of the inputs to that number are out of my hands (state/local tax, title fees, etc).

Last time I spoke to World Toyota they knew nothing about the car and wanted $20k over msrp on Premium models and $30k on LE models. They asked me if that was ok. I laughed in their faces and walked out. Bought mine for MSRP a week later over in SC.

State taxes and registration should be pretty obvious, but the misc. fees like document fees, process fees, dealer fees are all bullshit. If they can't break it down for you, I would just walk. This is one reason why I hate buying cars PERIOD. The last time I bought a brand new car from a dealer was 2009....

If you want to purchase out of state and want to negotiate the price with your dealer you can refer to Koons of Tyson, VA. Currently has a premium for 54,800 (Zero white). Since it will be out of state purchase you wont be paying any taxes here but in your state. You can always get your plate transferred for $20. Check it here,

and no, I do not work for them lol.

Your right, I asked for a prem model at World Toyota and he tried to sell me a base. I was Like I donā€™t think the base has car play. He said he thinks it does. He said LE are super rare and they let the last one go for $75k

I wouldnā€™t trust anything any of the Atlanta dealers post. I contacted all of them. They always show numbers looking good then when you call they say itā€™s a mistake and then change the price on the site. Itā€™s all a game.
