The grooves in the ball are so you can get a thin wrench on the ball and set/change the position on the threaded section I would imagine. The thread is either a tight thread class to stop it migrating or held in place with loctite I'd say. Phil

Image ??. If it's wet and forming a drop/drip from the pump seal weep hole then the seal is "on the way out" Might last months or less. Hard to say. There are approx 20,000 drops of water in a litre so even losing 100ml of coolant going to be a 2000 drop mess so it's not about the leakage rate...
