the ancient A70 is/was 52/48

50/50 or close to it isn't hard, especially when you have a lighter motor. of which, the B58 is quite a bit lighter than the 1/2JZ; ~180lbs lighter from my research (which makes sense given materials and advancements in tech).

It's the aluminum

911s are a great example of what am trying to emphasize here.
A great example of how important static distribution is, because the 718 is much better than the 911.

If the Supra isn't offered in manual, what (60k or more?) Sportscar would you guys opt out for instead? Just curious. :hmm:

Also, who's owned or owns a new 60k+ sportscar?

M4, 911, upcoming M2 CL, in that ballpark.

Not sure if I want another BMW though, just yet. So many choices these days, I'll have to make one eventually.

I think the reason it is a 2 seater is pretty obvious! They have already told us: They said they wrote down what they actually wanted for their cars(bmw for z4,toyota for supra)! And then the 2 teams joined together so they could find out what they have in common so the cost will go down!

For example:
1)They both wanted a sporty front engined rwd car but bmw wanted a 2seat roadster and toyota a 4seat(?) coupe:so the platform must be a 2seat because..roadster!

2)Toyota wanted an inline-6 TT but they don't have any..well surpriseee bmw has!!Maybe if they change it a bit then everyone will be happy!

3)Bmw has a lot of rwd cars so it is easier to take already excisted suspension parts and design and tune it to their specs(that may include design improvents), than design a whole new suspension system!

4)Interior: it will be different in design BUT it will have z4 parts like buttons, air ducts etc.

5)Transmission : that's a mystery!!But Europe is making a turn over from manuals to autos about their fast cars(i hope i am wrong about that) and USA just woke up and started to like manuals, but with 325.000.000 people I believe the purists(manual) vs the rest of them(auto) is something like 5% vs 95%.

6)I have a feeling the z4 will be a great car compared to previous generations BECAUSE of Toyotas envolvement!

All that things in my mind don't make the supra just a reskinned z4!

After reading this thread, potentially because of the partnership with BMW, maybe Toyota agreed to not putting a manual in the Supra...just a thought....

my personal thoughts are that Tada was forced into doing auto only, but I don't know the actual reasons... I asked him and the main junior engineer about the transmission choices, and they were both hesitant and visually distraught when I said that the manual trans was essential for a successful Supra.

pretty odd conversation, although this was a long time ago.

If there is no manual offering, the auto they use will have to be flawless. DCT would be best for finessing the inevitable criticism they will get (hell, they are already getting it in the auto blog comments).

^Agree with @Craigy... I would mainly consider another used 911 (I had a 2009 911 6-speed), an M2 (I like smaller-ish cars and would take the M2 over the M4 any day), I would also consider an RCF as a daily-GT car and keep my S2000 for 6MT fun.

And yes, I can afford a $60k sports car as either a daily or toy. There are a lot of other choices when one starts to look at Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, Jaguar, Mercedes, Audi, etc... lots of choices.
