Update!!!

So apparently it's the Compressor went out , and is a known issue amongst BMW Z4's.

Compressor has been ordered and will be installed this week.

Hopefully replacing this will fix the issue, and not turn into a trickle effect & numerous visits to the dealer.

I call BS on that site.. What's the mileage on your car anyhow..
Also, B58 is used across, can't be z4 specific. surely they may be fitting 2 seaters with smaller compressors but do they carry over the compressor from previous engine to this? dunno..
Anyhow, hopefully that fixes your problem..

Variable displacement compressors dont have clutch... if the compressor jams it stop the whole belt and alternator doesnt turn either.

Yeah didn't think of that. Makes sense. Worked on HVAC with clutch and clutchless never had experienced such an issue. Something with tensioner or belt selection? Dunno..

So they ordered a new compressor and belt, the work was supposed to be done yesterday and the car returned today. But of course!!! The dealership ordered the wrong part. Now Repair/Delivery is now scheduled for next week.

Yeah, if the AC compressor and the alternator share a belt that's gonna be a problem.

Sometimes they run a water pump too, then you’ve got real problems!!!
No idea if that’s the case on a B58. Last engine I put a spanner to was a K20.

Don’t like the idea of a compressor that can’t turn when it fails though. That doesn’t sound great at all.

there are usually shear pins etc if no clutch but the fun part about when things break is you never know what you're gonna get

UPDATE!

So they actually had the part expedited & replaced. I was able to pick the car up Saturday, Which was surprising. Car drives great so far!
