There is a TSB for many BMW models, including our platform mate G29 Z4, concerning ticking sounds coming from the front rotors under high load. The TSB is SI B34 05 17 for anyone who has access to BMW bulletins.

Depending on the car, the solution is a very thin friction ring between rotor and wheel and/or hub and rotor. For total clarity: it might be solved with 1 per side, or 2 per side, depending on the mating surfaces that are experiencing micro-movements.

Part number(s) and more info available in this US NHTSA doc.
This is literally what I posted, even down to the same link, a couple posts ago.

Look at that, another commonly-known BMW issue that Toyota dealerships are wholly unaware of.

This partnership has not been the greatest, if we're all being honest with each other. I wish Toyota would just sell the cars and farm out warranty service to BMW. It would be better for everyone involved.

Finally made the time to make a video of it. Very audible, you can see the speed and forces are not anywhere near extreme. Cooler temps appear to make it more noticeable. The parts just arrived, I'll install them sometime this week.

Out of curiosity, what are you torquing your wheel bolts to?

Spec, 103ft-lbs. The noise started without any adjustment to the wheels or tires after several months of use, but I double checked the torque and reseated the wheels twice so far.

And you haven't used anything between the wheel and rotor/hub surface, correct? No anti-seize or anything like that?

Correct. They were originally mounted and balanced by a reputable shop familiar with racing applications. When I double checked all of my clearances originally I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, just metal on metal contact.

Thanks, though.

Cool, just making sure!

Since this seems to be more of an issue with Apex wheels, I'm wondering if they aren't machined perfectly flat or something.

Hopefully the friction discs help you.

I took my car in yesterday for the navigation issue (not properly initialized) and the service writer said "we don't see these cars very often, and when we do, you should probably plan on it being here overnight". Sure 'nuf, an hour later he tells me that I'm getting a loaner because it will take them two days.

It would take 15 minutes at a BMW dealer to do this... but now these guys (I presume) are going to reload all of the software/firmware and mess up my settings.

Useless anecdote on this thread - I swapped OE wheels (different packages) on a, um, domestic car, and had a similar clicking hoise on hard turns. It was the wheel hitting the caliper... apparently there's enough flex in an aluminum wheel that this can happen. I was quite surprised. Thin spacers took care of it.
