I don't think you're understanding what I said....
The GTI is as fast as a 2.0 Supra.
If you drive the GTI, and you think it's quick enough, then you'll be happy with a 2.0 Supra, if you think it's too slow, then you'd obviously want the 3.0.
Just a way to see how quick the 2.0 Supra is before it lands at the dealers, that's all.
from what I am reading, he already has a 2020 3.0 A90 Supra. It looks like he wants to trade in his 3.0 for a 2.0. Your the one not understanding. And how do you know how quick the 2.0 Supra is? Have you driven it?

I understand just fine. Toyota said in their 2021 release that the 2.0 Supra is 255hp and has a 0-60 of 5.5 seconds. That's right in line with the mk7 and mk7.5 DSG equipped GTI. So, if you want to know how quick the 2.0 Supra will be, go drive a mk7 DSG GTI, then you'll know. I don't know how much clearer I can make this :dunno:

I am leaning heavily towards the 2.0 rather than than the 6 cylinder version. I think for my use, it will be sufficient. Add tune, and proper exhaust, it will be enough!

2.0 with a couple mods and tune sounds highly capable. From the UK market it sounds like you can get the bigger brembo brakes with the 2.0 model. This could be a solid contender especially considering I live in Hawaii and don't have far to drive. Quicker is more important than faster in my case.

The 3.0 is quicker than the 2.0 as well as faster. Quicker is acceleration, faster is top speed. 200 lbs is a 6% difference. 127 horsepower will easily offset that. The 3.0 might be 6% heavier, it's also 50% more powerful. 255+127=382.
Not to mention better brakes and suspension.
The 2.0 would be good if you're planning to build from the ground up. But stock vs stock there's no comparison.

There is no replacement for displacement. The reason why the 2020 Supra can make big power so easily is largely due to the displacement of the engine. The B58 is very detuned from BMW.

If you think back to the 2JZ engine and the RB26, a big part of why the 2J made/makes so much power easier than the RB is the increased displacement and associated internals. The 2.0 will be a fun car to drive but I would not buy one if you plan to modify for bigger power.

People are reliably making more than 600 whp on these engines without touching the internals. HP is a function of torque and the B58 makes more torque with less stress than it's 4-cylinder equivalent.

Yes, weight savings are huge in many more ways than acceleration. Turning and braking to name 2. The well set up 2.0 will be a road course monster...

Does my heart good to see Toyota resuming their performance legacy. First the 86, and now Supra, performance results will not be denied. Enthusiasts in the know will respond. Looking forward to the release of the turbo 86. Thank you Toyota, for providing real sports cars for buyers across a wide range of high value pricing! Now hurry up and get the '21 Supra to market. :)

I would not hold your breath for a TURBO 86. That would place it right near the Supra 2.0. The take rate for autos on the 86 is 70% or so, so that would kill the 86 sales me thinks, but $10K or so will separate those two. But, what do I know? Best guess is 225-230 hp and with a manual transmission being offered.

As much as I really want the new Supra, unfortunately, I won't be getting one anytime soon because I still have to go to school and get my degree but once I do graduate I would want to have the 2.0 model
I don't know why but I like it a lot and I'm so happy that Toyota brought here to America
The Supra 2.0 is great as a more affordable option and a fun car to drive around the city
And maybe later on down the line, I might upgrade to the 3.0

Motortrend has quoted another Magazine, NOT a source from Toyota or Subaru themselves, so there is that. I would be really surprised if they sell a 260 HP GT86, and I would also be really happy because I would purchase that in a manual rather than the Supra 2.0 in automatic. Time will tell!

Iā€™m still enjoying the 3.0, probably a few years away from doing anything but still leaning towards the 2.0. If Tada San remains true to his word about Supra getting a performance increase basically every year, Iā€™m sure it would apply to the 2.0 as well in some capacity. Weā€™ll see in a few years. A manual 2.0 would really seal the deal.
