This gets my vote as the dumbest thread of 2023. And even though it's only April, I'm pretty sure this will stand as the dumbest thread for the entire year.
If only we could have squeezed a flame tune into this somehow, could have been in contention for the all time top spot, not just 2023

I just wanted to get a straight answer on why was there supposedly $3k CAD surcharge if the dealer was only offering it for $70.5k or however much it was. Oh well

Thanks hope you find an allocation within the next month at MSRP
Canadian Toyota dealerships are forbidden by Toyota Canada to sell at above MSRP.
Some unscrupulous dealerships have been caught ‘selling’ to a ‘flipper’ who plates the car, doesn’t drive it off the lot then resells at above MSRP with the dealer taking a cut. Dealerships caught at this lose future allocations.
My A91 MT CULater also arrives late May/early June, at MSRP of $CDN 81,567.86, tx incl, no dealer added options. And yes, our $$$$ are worth not much more than Monopoly money🙄

Just my luck, I turned up too late to hand over 20k to jump the queue by a few months.. I had the money sat here ready to wire transfer and everything!! đŸ„ș

😂

PS I think we should all be reserving cars at every dealer in Canada! We’d all be millionaires by this time next year! 😜

Just to show there are people out there reserving cars they don't want. So even if you're in the back of the line, there is hope.......

We have one of these "opportunities" on the go here in BC, 1400kms, A91, $99,888... not at an actual Toyota dealer though.

CAD MSRP went up that much since 2019/2020!

Am I wrong in feeling like this is mostly a blue-collar (maybe light-blue for several of you) community, and the MKV being the "working man's attainable sports car" that it is (or is supposed to be), promotes a much lower tolerance for gate-keeping price-gougers than other owner groups?

Many of us made big sacrifices to own this car, even at its MSRP, and watching others needlessly struggle to get their own is a special kind of pain I certainly don't care for.

At least, that's my thinking-out-loud $.02

Makes sense to me. For most of us, it is our only sports car and wasn't an impulse financial decision. For me, it took several years of saving to even consider it. I'm not sure that I'll ever own a nicer "toy" than I do now. Maybe the Porsche guys can afford to pay 20k for an allocation, but that's for a 200k+ car and its just another sports car to their collection. I'm glad price-gouging is not normalized here - people need to stop ordering cars they don't want.
