I disagree. New government regulations drives requirements for thinner oils. It's a cheap way to make fuel consumption targets. If heavier weight oils were being usurped by light weight oils then heavier weight oils would be disappearing from the mainstream market which they aren't.

Personal bookmark so I know where to pickup this romance novel when I have more time.

Not a Corvette.
Imagine if the same passion some people have for oil, they refocused it on properly searching to make sure something they are about to ask or state hasn't already been posted 5,000x before.

Exactly the government drives for fuel efficiency at the expense of potentially more engine wear

Warranty question. With the Toyota manual explicitly calling for LL-17FE 0W-20 oil, if one were to use an LL-01 or LL-04 oil and have engine failure what are the chances of a denied warranty claim?

Stock engine here and doing more and more track days in the Supra, but still trying to maintain that warranty :D

Really just depends on not only the dealer but if Toyota calls for checking what oil is in the engine if there is a failure. It does technically states in the owners manual that they only recommend 0w20 and 0w30, however, there are other oils that are approved in bmws owners manual running the same engine.

It really would be up to the manufacturer if they were to deny or approve a claim. It's always your call when changing something on the car since things can get denied over very stupid things and I've seen it happen before
