I was speaking with my Toyota service manager. He told me that any mods I want to do are fine and won't break the warranty. He said 1st time incident he can cover. 2nd time he needs to justify. He also said it's absolutely worthless to do the oil testing on a engine with less than 30,000 miles.

But, he said the best thing you can get is this: https://www.bonoss.com/product/bono...plug-kit-m12x1-5-for-toyota-gr-supra-j29-2019

I've heard someone say they were going to destroy COVID but not the economy...

If it's not in writing... then it didn't happen (and maybe even if it is). However, it's great that you have a reasonable (and rational) service manager at your dealership. I'd trade almost anything to just have one that was half that good.

I'd still take any verbal agreements or instructions with a very large block of salt...

When I explained to him that I wanted to mod the car but was worried about the warranty, he smiled and showed me a photo of his 1966 Dodge Charger that he'd put together. Said, no worries, I got you covered.

That's actually pretty awesome and has been my experience at my local dealership as well. They love the car there, enjoy talking about it, and said they've got my back. Glad you hooked up with a good service department!

Yes, but his point was it's worthless until the engine has more miles.
I mean, he's wrong. Literally wrong. You can check to see how the oil is holding up, if there are shavings, if there are impurities.. always. Why wait to 30,000 to see if there's a problem if you can know right now?

This. I wound up waiting that long - however, not by choice. Bad service techs ignoring my request and multiple post-it notes asking them to pull a sample during both of my free changes cost me the first 2. Then I forgot to ask for sample at my BMW shop of choice the next time I got one.

While it was comforting to get a great report back at 30K miles... it would have been really nice to see what changed along the way. It's like taking your blood pressure once a year... doesn't really tell you much of value unless you have historical data to compare it to.

It's not only that but it's for wear patterns. You can tell when a problem is starting, figure out what it might be and stop something really bad from happening before it happens (in most cases). Best to start from your first oil change right?

How do you do this? I recently purchased my Supra from a guy who had put 7.5k on the ā€˜21 and had been running I believe 5w-20. I’m approaching my first change since he had done it before I purchased, do I keep it on 5w-20 or try the oem weight ?
