that things primary function is phone heating (I wonder if this is due to the cell extender we supposedly have and not charging), and yea kinda useless when trying to use google maps / torque

Yeah, the whole inductive charging + being enclosed by the clip thing is a bad combination.

Trying to figure out how to mount my phone horizontally in the space where the tray is. Not sure how to explain it so I took a pic with a phone case in the spot I'm suggesting.

I bought a couple of magnetic mounts, but they don't fit right. Thinking of a larger suction cup mount that clamps to the underside of the area?

Ideally I would like a piece made to cover the area but hold my phone right there. I know, I'm dreaming.

Any thoughts?

You could try to reach out to someone with a 3D scanner and a 3D printer to have a custom mount made that attaches into the existing flat phone holder and then allows an angle view like you're looking for. There is not an existing market solution that is solving your ask here, i just completed the search for a phone holder and ended up going vent style.

Why don't you get a telescoping vent mount and clip it to the undertray cover?

Just bought and set up the Apps2car one. Amazon has a 2 pack for ~$15. Works great and I like that you can put the metal backing in your phone case, no tape required.

Well I switched to this and it looks better in terms of stealth with the cables. The magsafe and charge are strong enough to use google maps and youtube at the same time on my 13 Pro Max.

Ok, this magsafe charger and this cable allowed me to do this. I was able to push in the cable almost everywhere along its path.
