Looking to find the best weekend car to complement my Evo 9 MR (Daily) and the Supra has caught my eyes since its release and faithfully waited for a Manual release. I went as far as to go to the dealerships stating that I am interested on claiming one myself. After a few years, the B58 engine has proven to be a competent replacement for the 2JZ if not better. For those who had a dedicated weekend cars or driven many sports cars, what car was the most memorable and the most driver oriented? What's it like driving the Supra (6-Speed)?

I have also looked at other cars such as the E90 M3, E46 M3, NSX (1st Gen) and the S2000. I have driven the S2000 before and I had so much fun with the car that after parting ways with it, I immediately bought another one a year later. Huge plus that its so easy to work on. This prompted me to search for cars that are driver oriented and sparked interest on the E90 M3 due to the fact it is a screaming NA V8.

Do you think the 6-Speed A90 Supra will satisfy my needs as a weekend car? Or should I pursue other cars?

I love mine. I had a hatchback sti that was my only car. Now it's the MT supra for weekends and daily my 4Runner. Definitely makes me look forward to weekends when the weather is nice. My S2000 friends who drove my car say the near 50/50 weight distribution gave them a similar canyon road thrill just with a ton more power. Plus the BMW-like creature comforts make it an enjoyable car just to be stopped at a light in.

But if you were in a position to get an NSX that's what i'd get lol. i would throw in a Cayman into the mix also

If the 1st gen NSX were more common here in Hawaii, I would definitely try but thats near impossible to get the specs you want and find the cleanest one. I had the '16 STI that was my daily and got bored after few years. Modding the car is one step closer to a ticking time bomb. To make power, I aint spending $20k just to gain 100-200+hp. That's where I turned to the Evos and now looking at a very tunable B58 Supra.

If the Evo9 MR is your daily, you might find the MT Supra a bit kinda, tame?

It's still a fun drive, really fast/handles really well etc, but you might find it lacking some Feedback vs the Evo.

My Supra actually replaced my BRZ as my summer daily, but my weekend car is a '91 MR2 Turbo for example. It's slower than the Supra in every way, but a lot more engaging to drive.

Guess it all sorta depends on what you're looking for. Are you leaning more towards a fun/nice do everything car? (Fast, nice to be in, can do long distances, handles well, etc) or are you looking for driver engagement above all else?

If the former, then yeah the Supra is an awesome car. If you're looking for the latter though, the S2K and NSX from your list are probably what I'd look towards, or even a Lotus Elise/Exige if those are in the budget. They're not the fastest cars in the world in a straight line but short of a dedicated track car, I've yet to drive something that wants you to drive it as much as those cars do.

Because the A90 Supra is new, I can have a clean slate with the car and I have the option to either keep the car the way it is or mod the car for power whenever I want in the future. I have a lot of control what happens to the car without worrying about the former owners fuck up. That to me is a huge plus. Oh and the Supra is a damn good looking car.

To me, a weekend car should be perfect and have no issues at all. Whenever you go out with it, it should always break the monotony of driving the same car or offer at least a different experience. It doesn't have to be the same as my Evo but it should be as fun as driving it.

We don't really have a track here and the only place I can have fun with it is in the mountain or the drag strip. But basically I just want a 2 door sports car that I can take out on a nice Sunday drive while ripping it.

As a former owner of an Evo 8, S2K, and a manual Supra, I'll give my 2 cents here.

The Supra is a great weekend commuter car, very comfortable suspension, plenty of power, and great gas mileage IF you drive conservatively, however the driving engagement/fun factor is no where close to an S2K or NSX. The Supra is great at being a GT car and that's what it's designed for.

If you're looking for a driver oriented car, I'd look at something else.

I think the Supra is a great weekend GT (grand touring) car.. it's got enough power and stability to drive like a sport car that it is, but more a comfort oriented driver's car.

Perhaps a good match for someone with a raw car like the EVO.. and I still recommend you get the AT version and keep the car for a decade.. then with age, one might understand why sports cars come AT.

As a former S2k owner (twice), I totally agree. The Supra doesn't deliver a raw or particularly engaging\rewarding drive in comparison, but it comes from totally different generation so not it's fault. It is a much better GT car though and looks so unique.

If you can afford a NSX then that's the one to go for, great investment too. Sadly the prices went crazy in the UK, so no longer comparable to a Supra.

I strictly never buy a sports with AT unless it does not offer it. I find having a 3rd pedal and rowing your own gear is a way better experience for self enjoyment. But I did thought of buying a daily Supra (AT) and weekend Supra(MT) but then the opportunity to buy the Evo 9 just appeared and I just had to buy it.

I leave the AT driving to my Tacoma.

Funny bcuz someone mentioned here that he only uses manual shifting and now that I’ve tried it I never just put it in “D” and go. I manually shift every time I drive and it’s pretty fun…
