I never hit any pot hole at all, and car not lowered or anything. Hitting a pot hole at such speed to break the tie rod would certainly show other damage, especially to the rim or tire. There is no damage. Too much of a coincidence that the 2020 was recalled for possible failure of that exact part.
Except the failure was based on metal fatigue over time, caused by heat cycles and/or plenty of miles on rough roads.

Not accusing you personally of anything, but it's quite obvious an event with serious kinetic energy occurred in the corner in question. This didn't just randomly bend and snap. They don't make these out of Gumby's severed arms.

In other words, he’s saying the OP is fat.

@zrk is correct regarding threatening legal action. I had one instance with a car brand that I owned where I threatened legal action for not covering a failure and immediately got shut down and any other progress went down the toilet. Hard lesson learned but nonetheless, I learned my lesson and will never do that again.

Regarding the broken tie rod, it looks like it for sure hit the sway bar somehow and snapped.

It is not a $5k job by any means. $500-$600 and while it sucks that you have to pay even th, everything else in this instance could’ve been way worse so if it were me I’d consider myself fortunate.

Hopefully you have made some progress with getting it repaired.

Horrible advice. $5k is highway robbery for that $120 part and an alignment. I can change that out in under an hour.

Any good shop will do that for under $500.
Hey, do what you want. My steering wheel has not fallen off yet.

Neither did the OP's. Stating to just pay $5k because it's no big deal on a less than $500 solve is like the most privileged thing I have read today.
Its funny - the more money I make the cheaper I get

Looking at this photo again. It looks like the sway bar contacted the tie rod (you can see the mark on the bar) and bent it up and then the rod snapped. A couple track guys with bigger bars and such have had some issues with bending the tie rod. Everything is VERY tight in there when the car is on the ground.

Was the car jacked up or put on a lift recently?

Image from my Supra with just a .5" lowering and aftermarket end links that position the bar lower than OEM.

It was in for routine oil change service a couple of months ago, so I guess it may have been on a lift for the tires to be rotated

Ah, the plot thickens!

I want to make it clear that everything I have been posting is NOT to put blame on you. My sentiment is to try and help you out.

If Toyota ends up telling you to bugger off, just know that the fix is most likely $500 or less at a good independent shop IF the only thing broken is that outer tie rod. Replace tie rod, alignment, done.

It is a $60k car.. I’d just pay it, enjoy the car. I mean if someone can fix it for you at a more economical price, go for it, but life is too short to be worried about $5k.

Since it’s no big deal for you. Why don’t you (Mr. $$$$$) help the OP pay for it. Since $5k is chump change for you.

You don't rotate tires/wheels on a Supra.
I guess one could move them left to right as they are asymmetrical.. directional outside. :dunno:
