Hey all, so just an update:
£1750 later, new oil pump fitted and...... I can measure oil again! ?
BUT! I have since taken apart my old pump and although it is the old version with the plastic housing... it's not broken in any way that I can see. I've attached pics below:
So yea... really strange. There was obviously an issue as it now measures oil and it didn't before but it looks like the diagnosis of a faulty plastic retainer isn't the issue in this case.
Thanks to all for the info and a special shout out to @Faye for all the information and part numbers, that helped massively.
At least I know now that my pump is good and it's the metal one! (ps: the bmw part worked)
