interesting (and scary) stuff.

You would not necessarily have to encrypt all CAN bus traffic, just the keyless entry sensors traffic.

This would also mean you only need to design new chips for the keyless entry function instead of every CAN bus sensor interface across the car which would be a pain and expensive. Also, if they did it this way it would have no Impact on mods.

BMWs (including our Supras) already have the high-speed CAN encrypted. The trans communicates over FlexRay, which is why we're so fucking boned on trans tuning.

Edit: This is also why we don't have MoTEC yet.

Sorry, but I noticed the sites selling these CAN hacking devices lists the GR Supra as being vulnerable.

Flexray, now that’s a memory from many moons ago!

That was the one automotive project I ever did around 15 years back for BMW which was a Flexray IP core. I can‘t remember bugger all about it now though much like most of my design work! ?

What’s up with Flexray tuning wise? People just concentrate on CAN stuff I am guessing?
