100% this. It depends how you set it up. I have it setup so that if billing and shipping don't match up, it flags the order. Same if the IP address isn't near the the billing address. I had a new one set up that flags all orders over $1000. That way a real person (which is normally me) has to check over the order to make sure it looks good on paper.Usually if the billing and shipping addresses don’t match it could be a sign of fraudulent order. But there’s some other things to lookout for.
Most payment processing gateways actually have a built in risk monitor that shows if an order is high risk.
It takes way more time to verify the order, which sucks but it doesn't suck as much as a charge back. The thing that really sucks is that there are just bad people out there. Everything can match up perfectly but if the part comes in with a minor scratch on it, people will still do a claim with their CC company, without even reaching out first. When that happens, those people get put on the do not sell list.
