Quick update, dealer is now covering the job under the powertrain warranty. Hurray! My wallet is saved. To think I almost foolishly folded and could have been out 2k.. that's new tires money!

Thanks to you all for your input, advice and information. I'd buy you all a beer and pizza if I could.

coolant pump failing that early is definitely something that shouldve been warranty work. But have to remember, dealerships hate doing warranty work. Techs hate it even more since they dont get paid the same rate.

Some dealerships are better than others though. When I was at 49,9xx miles, I pulled into dealership and mentioned about small weeping of fluid from transmission pan. They told me they would replace it even knowing I was tuned and had lots of aftermarket parts installed.
To me (and based off my experience decades ago in that industry), is that they got it done (instead of fighting me or trying to deny warranty work) to establish better consumer relationships.

Which, based off not only that experience, I have referred many supra owners to that dealership, and if I do buy another Toyota in the future, I would have them up on my list.

Im jealous! Down here where I live in FL it seems my local dealers are a bit inept unfortunately. But, in this circumstance at least after some fight from them they're doing more than just the coolant pump work. They recharged my ac compressor, cleaned up the engine bay, flushed my brakes, changed oil, and have loaned me a nice Camry while I wait. Also getting the windshield replaced while I'm at it since I have a few chips on my original windshield right where my eyes align in the driver's seat.
All covered, thankfully.

The saga continues, gentlemen.

So turns out both my low pressure electric coolant pump AND the main mechanical coolant pump failed. Dealer replaced both under warranty - picked the car up a week ago, everything seemed to be back to normal, great.

I've put maybe 50 miles on it the past week, and tonight as I start it up, about to go pick up some late night food, I get a LOW COOLANT WARNING and immediately feel PTSD flashbacks lol.

Just gonna bring it back in. Idk what to say or do.

Have you checked the coolant level of both tanks?

It's possible that there was an air bubble trapped, causing a low coolant level.

I had the same thing with another car 40km after the water pump was replaced. I filled it up, and it has been going strong ever since.

I wonder if they ever bled the system and just topped it off. Did you check under your car? Is it leaking anywhere?

Had the same thing happen when I got my car back from getting the mechanical pump installed. The bmw bleed procedure is automatic but kind of involved and will take a few rounds of it to get all the air out. I got the coolant from bmw and I think the car took like 2 qts of it (plus water so a gallon mixed) before it was done. It’s been fine since.

there’s write ups on here about it but this video was useful:

Yea high chance the dealer might have done only one bleeding procedure.
But it is recommended to do the bleeding several times.

Just top of both reservoirs and do the bleeding process for both high and low temp circuit.

Which dealership is that?

Thanks, great video/info!

I'll have to get the coolant shipped in so I have this handy for the future. I'll bring it back to the dealer on Monday and bring up everything mentioned here and see what they say. If they can bleed it a few more times for me and get it sorted now, then hopefully if I ever face this same issue again in the future by then I'll have the proper coolant on hand and can do the procedure myself.

Cheers

I have had to do coolant related work on my car a few times now.
I have always bled it 3-4 times across 3-4 days with the auto bleeding procedures just to be safe
