I've just starting my shopping experience. It seems like few people are able to get a discount on MSRP, although I'll try, I'm not hopeful. Any referrals to dealers with in-stock MT cars that will discount?

There is a 2023 local to me with 3500 miles, priced at $58K. That's what it cost new. With 2025s now available, even if I can get them down to $55K or so, I'm still not seeing it as a viable alternative to a new one at around $64K. But it is local, saving me the hassle and expense of going out of state to pick one up. Any thoughts on this conundrum?

This will be my fun toy/track car, so I'm not so wound up over color (the local one is red, my #4 choice) or anything else, except that it must be a manual transmission.

I was able to get my M/T 4k below MSRP in CT but I had to wait a year for it. A-1 Toyota

You aren't looking very hard. I've seen every color but black in manual Prem at 57-58k and on the market for weeks. Blue one sold quick but red and white were on the market for weeks. Call the Tom Wood Toyota dealer in Indy. They keep playing games on the price $61-63k but have had the car on the lot for at least 2 weeks. They have a blue one.

I've contacted Tom. Thanks.

I'd love to find a car at 57, 58k. Where are they?

I'm looking in a 500 mile radius. Obviously I need to expand that.

If you or anyone else sees a car, please send me a link!

I know it's only been a couple of days, but I'm really getting annoyed. Why doesn't BMW/ Toyota make more of these?

I went through a similar experience last year when buying my Blackwing. It took weeks to find one at MSRP. It was worth it though... :drive:

Car buying in general right now is a steaming pile of dogshiat.

I'm looking for a 330i MSport off lease and I cannot believe the BS I have been going through with dealers. Their feast time is over and they are really having a hard time coming back to reality.

I have put reasonable offers (in person) on three different cars last month, of course they decline and the cars are still sitting there collecting dust.

Thank you for succinctly summarizing the issue. :D

When I was on my test drive last weekend chatting with the salesman, he told me that during the pandemic when there was a shortage, he made more money than he had ever made (or made since) in his career. Everything selling at MSRP+ and he was busy, busy, busy.

I think the dealerships want to keep that gravy train going just as long as they can. Maybe they have to discount the Camrys and other only-suitable-as-a-rental car garbage, but they're going to hose us on the nicer cars, like the Supra, the new whatchamacallit truck/SUV thing that I can't remember the name of...

So, for those following along at home, I continued widening my search, many dealers want MSRP or better, those dirt sucking ?, one or two wouldn't sell to me since I was not local, another wanted me to come in to discuss in person even though it was clearly stated and understood that I was not local, but there were a small number that were willing to negotiate.

BTW, the most egregious was $5K over sticker.

And then come the fees. OMG, the fees.

TLDR; I found one, it was in transit when I started, it's at the dealer now, I'll pick it up Saturday and drive home 9 hours, but that will take care of some of the break-in and the weather looks good then, if not a bit chilly. And I got a nice little discount. :)

The hardest part negotiating on the Supra is it's a much smaller production quantity than other Toyotas and people keep buying inbound allocations, so dealers still have the better position in negotiating price. Unless a bunch of them start sitting on the lot, not sure how buyers will gain bargaining power.

Classic pressure tactic, as once you've made the trip they believe you're more likely to accept a higher price they'll hit you with when you're there.

That's what I'm seeing here in AZ. In fact, one dealer said "$5k-7.5k". They are a huge dealer and get allocations every 3 weeks or so but they're also the biggest price gougers around.
