No, the power comes from the same wire as the door handle lights so they turn on and off the same as those.Do these stay on dimly at night as ambient lighting?
Any way the lights could stay on while vehicle is in motion/on?TLDR:
Use the provided fuse tap and plug your control box into fuse F62. Move the existing fuse to the tap. It's in the footwell next to the BCM. You can check a fuse panel diagram to find it.
Connect all your LED strips to the control box.
Congrats! Your chosen RGB light color will turn on when the door opens or vehicle is locked/unlocked. They will turn off after 6 minutes of inactivity.
If you want the lights to turn off after you leave park: no bueno.
If you want the lights to go white when you open the door, then switch to color when door closes: nobody has figured that out. "That" is called Door Assist.
For my use case? I want soft footwell lighting in my chosen color at all times, so I don't care if Door Assist doesn't work, or if lights are tied to Park/Drive.
All the wires can be hidden above the plastic trays that pop out from under the dash.
The control box and fuse tap can be entirely hidden behind the passenger kickplate.
Connect them to a switched power fuse.Any way the lights could stay on while vehicle is in motion/on?
Connect them to a switched power fuse.
I tapped into Fuse F62 in the front (passenger side) fuse panel. This is the fuse you want to use for ambient lighting, dash cam, etc. I use it for my dash cam, foot well lighting, and dash lighting.I see. No way to have it work automatically?
Thanks a lot, this helps!I tapped into Fuse F62 in the front (passenger side) fuse panel. This is the fuse you want to use for ambient lighting, dash cam, etc. I use it for my dash cam, foot well lighting, and dash lighting.
The fuse turns on once you unlock the car and stays on while the vehicle on and driving, and turns off 6 minutes AFTER you turn the car off. So it's great for footwell lighting and the like.
Sorry for reviving this. What materials/ parts did you all use for the footwell lights? And you tapped into the grey yellow wire correct?Probably can use the trunk connectors if you modify them. My pictures above show the difference. I had a poke around in the passenger footwell just now and found the grey w/ yellow striped wire that was mentioned in a previous door puddle lamp DIY thread. Got to assume it is the same as the wire in the door. I want to get a tester to make sure it performs the exact same way as the door lights. If so that’s the wire I’m going to tap on each side of the car.![]()

I used the OEM lights.Sorry for reviving this. What materials/ parts did you all use for the footwell lights? And you tapped into the grey yellow wire correct?
Stupid question what wires didn't you need? And I guess is it safe to just remove them? Will it short circuit? Sorry I have zero knowledge in terms of wiring.I used the OEM lights.

And was just recently able to find the correct connector for them. Got two from a company in Latvia. Just removed the two wires that I didn’t need from the connectors.

Yes, I tapped into the grey/yellow striped wire on both the driver and passenger sides.
I was talking about the wires on the connectors I got from eBay. You only need wires in terminals 1 and 2 so I removed them from 3 and 4. For example in the picture below I would remove the yellow and black wires.Stupid question what wires didn't you need? And I guess is it safe to just remove them? Will it short circuit? Sorry I have zero knowledge in terms of wiring.
So OEM lights and Ttaps. That seems easy enough.I was talking about the wires on the connectors I got from eBay. You only need wires in terminals 1 and 2 so I removed them from 3 and 4. For example in the picture below I would remove the yellow and black wires.

No worries about any shorts, I used some T-taps on the grey/yellow stripe wire since their direction was easier to work with than a guillotine tap. These are just like the ones I used.
