It appears Alpine had a unilateral option to lock in Piastri for a seat for next year, which I understand they exercised. That said, I am sure Piastri's people were seeing if the McLaren seat was actually available and I am sure Alpine was thinking about bringing Ricciardo back.

F1 didn't, Alpine did. F1 is just reporting what they're told by Alpine.

Seems like a new Sauber/Maunisha Kaltenborn/Giedo van der Garde situation if you guys watched F1 back then I'm sure you remember. That was a mess too with multiple drivers contracted to the same seat. Instead this time he doesn't want it ?

Great way to start as a rookie, saying no.

Yeah, it does look like that's the case. With Oscar Piastri moving to McLaren and Daniel Ricciardo moving back to Alpine. Believe it or not, Fernando Alonso's shock move to Aston Martin, and Sebastian Vettel retiring sent a huge shockwave to the silly season market.

Oscar Piastri is now in a position of significant power, where he and Mark Webber (his manager) now have two teams wanting to sign him. Alpine (and Otmar Szafnauer) does not seem to show much respect to Fernando Alonso whatsoever and seem to have their sights set on Esteban Ocon.

Daniel Ricciardo is not jiving with the McLaren whatsoever, but perhaps a move back to Alpine would help him, and Oscar Piastri to McLaren to free himself from Alpine would work for all parties.

I feel like we're going to see Fernando Alonso doing well with Aston Martin given how much money Aston Martin are spending over the next few years.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ricciardo is on his way out completely. He's been in a downward spiral ever since he left Red Bull. There's plenty others Alpine or McLaren can put in that second seat. Norris is experienced enough now that he doesn't need a more experienced driver next to him, and Ocon has plenty of races under his belt too.

So whoever gets Piastri, there will be 5 or 6 drivers available for the other team.

I don't think Alpine are taking the right approach in their response to Piastri's news.
They've basically said he's contractually obligated to race for them...yeah that's how your going to get a driver to win races for you, tell him he's obligated to do so.

I guess I am alone on this one, but I actually think Alonso is making a mistake. Alpine has found some pace this year, and are almost always in the points with both cars. You cannot say that about Aston Martin. I guess he really hates Ocon, because I would think Ocon is a lot easier to deal with than Stroll and his dad.

Totally agree with you. I don’t see AM going anywhere with Lawrence Stroll at the helm.

Nah, Alpine is becoming a total clusterfuck. The more and more I am finding out the more I notice that Alpine are a bunch of possessive fucks and when they DO have the drivers, they'll just prefer Ocon instead.

Fernando Alonso and Oscar Piastri have dodged a big ass bullet.

Aston Martin is on the rise, they're building huge facilities and the potential is definitely there. Lance is a waste of a seat, and Vettel lost his edge years ago. Will be very interestingto see what Alonso can do.

The plot thickens, Schumacher will be dropped by HAAS so expect his management to get involved too.
