Australia? Sales down 71% in February vs the same time last year according to their Electric Vehicle Council. Source
I don't know about other countries, but EVs have largely reached saturation point in Australia: Those who wanted an EV now have one. Also, our market has been flooded by new Chinese EVs. Another factor is that depreciation on EVs is much higher than ICE cars fueling the downturn. This was all before Trump was voted in and Elon became a part of the administration.

And finally, nobody really takes the Guardian seriously here, for the record.

Just want to reiterate that I've never speculated as to WHY sales are down in numerous countries, just that they are. I think it makes a ton of sense that more EV options leads to less Tesla sales. I don't think Elon being so polarizing helps that situation, but ultimately, it's kind of irrelevant.

I don't think it matters if anyone likes The Guardian or not when this isn't an investigative or op-ed piece. They're literally just reporting what the Electric Vehicle Council stated. I don't like CNN, but if they reported the sky is blue, that's just a simple observable fact, no? lol

Of course it matters. Remember when all the Z spastics were talking about the drop in Supra sales? Once you add the context that the drop in sales had nothing to do with demand but instead supply, the headlines spewed all over the internet made no sense.

Like the headline, "Supra Sales Plummet," with the context I have provided, the Guardian's "Australian Tesla sales plummet as owners rush to distance themselves from Elon Musk" is clearly a bullshit headline. The connection between the two phrases they use, are at best tenuous or at worst, flat out wrong.

And for the record, I really couldn't give a shit about any of this, I'm just pointing out that facts in 2025 require a modicum of critical thinking!

And that is the key point my brotha from the land down unda! Looking at your sources and make your own decisions. All EV sales are down and have been prior to Elon helping out the newly awake admin for free.

That pisses off the old guard who do very little and make millions on a fraction of their salary. They forgot they work for the people long ago. Where’s all the good news about finding crazy amounts of spending on bullshit programs? If they’re not reporting it, they’re not worthy of my time. That’s where the majority of Americans are. Fed up with the extreme spin on things & hiding what they don’t like. Podcasts are way up thanks to it. No fed money or pressure on them from the big corps. It just takes longer for some Americans ? to take their heads out of the sand.

Funny example: Canadian Clinton Jaws has a hilarious show on YouTube just from playing BS news from our bloated legacy media. He started getting millions of hits replaying all the BS media channels and commenting on them from his RV during & after the election. Dude now has millions of likes from their shenanigans. The funniest part is they keep doing it. Like they don’t even see any of the good stuff going on. LIke little children closing their ears and screaming. Keep it up! It makes for hilarious TV. Sky Australia is good too!

Did I say that it didn't matter? A lot of strawman arguments here. There are a few possible reasons why Tesla sales are dropping worldwide. Saturation? Sure. Competition? Sure. Elon being polarizing? Sure.

Not once did I specify any cause or discredit any proposed explanation for the drop in sales, production, and stock price. What's ironic is that The Guardian literally makes the SAME arguments as you lol. They mentioned that demand for EVs was slipping away in favor of hybrids, and that there was increased competition from Chinese EV makers... How strange lol

It doesn't matter what the headline is if I didn't reference the headline in my citation. All that matters is whether or not the claim I made is backed by a verifiable fact. I said sales for Tesla dropped by 71% compared to the MONTH prior. That data came from the Electric Vehicle Council, not The Guardian's own investigation.

If we're going to emphasize Critical Thinking, then I think that would include not using logical fallacies and instead just attacking what I *actually* said, vs whatever arguments anyone assumes I did. And if we're going to use critical thinking, are we really going to explain a 70% drop in sales of a SPECIFIC brand in *ONE* month as chiefly the result of market saturation and competition? Even as sales of other EVs did not drop by similar amounts in one month? And it just so happens to be one month from when the CEO embroiled himself in various controversies from an enthusiastic hand gesture to support for polarizing Italian parties?

As for whether or not Musk is impacting new Tesla sales and the behaviors of existing owners, there's plenty of evidence for that as well. I'm not Australian, so I don't know which publication over there is *respected*, but anyway:

According to polls by YouGov, Tesla as a Brand has continually declined over time. It's in the negatives:

1742135341103-bt.jpg

From ABC: "Stephen Lester, CEO of the Australian branch of the global market insights company Cox Automotive, says the scale of Tesla's sales fall is 'significant'".

"It's definitely cause for interest," he says. "Interest in EVs is growing and not declining and therefore one would be interested in why Tesla is being affected."

He later points out the same arguments as you (and The Guardian), highlighting competition and such. He also notes that the target demo has changed, and as EV buyers shift from being higher income early adopting middle aged men who remain loyal to the brand and/or Elon, to lower income families with a variety of backgrounds and ages, Elon's behavior and actions could move those potential EV buyers away from Tesla. Source

In fact, it's almost impossible to find a single article about Tesla's sales decline that DOESN'T reference polls, anecdotes, and statements from market analysts stating Elon's words and actions aren't impacting the brand.

So if we're using critical thinking, clearly there's enough evidence for both correlation AND causation regarding Elon and Tesla sales, albeit not exclusively. This really shouldn't be that controversial of an observation, but I understand that people who really like a public figure or have a strong attachment to a given ideology or worldview will go to great lengths to protect them when they are challenged. I'm ok with, no harm, no foul!

But that's not what the sources say lol. The sources are showing that there was a dramatic drop off in sales in ONE MONTH. The month after Elon's hand salute and support for controversial political groups in Italy.

Regarding the "good news", I already mentioned that Musk and DOGE were called out for making a ton of mistakes in their reporting over "finding crazy amounts of spending". From claiming they ended programs that haven't been in place for decades to reporting one cut several times to inflate the overall number, to claiming BILLIONS were saved when it was just millions lol. And what did DOGE do after they were called out? Stop reporting altogether...

I don't think people, especially Americans want accurate reporting now, they just want to hear whatever agrees with their various biases. That's why podcasts are great, no journalistic integrity, just spin in the direction you like the most.

But in the interest of fairness, let's see what Sky News is saying about Tesla sales and stock prices as of late:
- Elon's antics are turning off buyers
- He's viewed as a distracted CEO, and those sentiments have only been amplified since DOGE, as they were being made when he took over Twitter
- Tesla shares have been overpriced
- Chinese competition

Sounds like the same arguments we've all already positioned in this thread ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just peeking in to see if the Anti-EV guiz now love EV's since orange potato turned into a EV car salesman on the whitehouse lawn.

Yup. sure do, while calling others sheep even. Pure ironic comedy.
The amount of whiplash I’ve had over the years as people toss away things they claimed to care about so deeply over the latest social media post or statement by their politician of choice ???

I’d have so much more respect for people if they’d just admit they don’t actually care about anything and just want their team to win lol

And stop using incorrectly/appropriating the terms "Woke" "Wokeism" "Wokest". If you don't understand a term, and don't care to, don't use it.

That’s just more of that wonderful socialist mindset, if I hear you correctly. I definitely don’t care about team politics. I do indeed care about certain issues and vote accordingly. Freedom of speech (or the lack thereof was especially scary in the setting of Covid), wide open boarders, men in women’s sports, dumb shit like that. Everyone isn’t the same and that is what makes the world a better place to me.

It's not really political to think there should be transparency when an unelected official who has financial conflicts of interest is given access to your social security info, health records, income data, even notes from your therapy sessions. It's a dramatic swing in perspective when the "Don't Tread on Me" crowd is now fine with being tread on as they think it owns the libs/wokes lol.
Wait wut?!? When did Elon Musk get my health records. Wow… was that from a Joy Reid podcast or the View? Yes there was Russia collusion, no Biden laptop & all charges against bad orange man were never weaponized. He actually claimed the wrong value on his Mar-a-Lago home & deserves to go to jail! We’d all be in bad shape if that was true, obtaining bank loans & estimating the value.

Back to cars. I am glad however you choose to buy a Supra. That’s not an experience everyone gets to enjoy. But you’ve obviously worked hard enough to. So cheers :beer:to that & enjoy that mofo. It’s so worth it!!!! And the Tesla plaid acceleration is INSANE. They named that mode well.

How wide open should the boarder be?

I'm not even going to bother on all the other things you parroted.
Yeah it’s fun to mess up brakes with breaks as well. Especially on a car forum ?
