I skipped like 2 pages and this thread went from a legitimate discussion about electric cars to debating the financial troubles and political impacts of Tesla Inc and Elon Musk.

I don't know whether the more relevant takeaway is that you should avoid skipping pages on threads so you don't get whiplash from sudden topic shifts, or that the second you introduce politics into any discussion the discussion turns into a total shitshow.

I’d really be worried about the Chinese EVs reliability and privacy policies. Unless they built them over here and had the same oversight & regulations.

I’ve only been in my son-in-law‘s 2024 Tesla Model 3 performance on a more regular basis and it appears to be a big step up in quality. Plus they worked on a few other issues people were complaining about in the past. Which is understandable for any new car company, at least to me. The other Teslas I’ve been in, including the Plaid S were fun but I’ve heard as well what Jay was saying. People going through tires & brakes that were too small. They now make aftermarket wheels and adjustable suspension parts (similar to ours), which will help with that.

So again… I really think for the money, the 2024 Model 3 is a great buy and do a lot better than the previous model 3s. And as far as any short term market concerns - people trashing Teslas - only provides more incentive for people who actually like our tax dollars being audited for fraud, waste & abuse to buy them. I had a friend go out and buy one of those butt fugly Cybertruck Beast in show of support the other way. That short term negative publicity will eventually backfire since it‘s based on emotions w/out real standing. It’s the same old Hollywood elite wokeism & other people with TDS selling them at a fraction of their cost. Which will only push more people into the brand who couldn’t otherwise afford to buy one. Add to the fact, most of the country doesn’t give a rats ass about someone’s over the (mental) edge politics.

Lucid is beautiful but mega expensive & has far less suppliers. Economies of scale at working. That’d be my only fear of that one or Lotus. At least Lotus is in your immediate area. An old track buddy who now lives in CA was showing me pics of his Model 3 performance yesterday. He‘s wants to track that mofo. I seen more of them in Sebring tracking than Homestead. Helps there are multiple aftermarket companies now making parts for them. So I wouldn’t buy all the hype that Teslas are going away - from the one sided media just yet.
I totally agree. Because one party spreads lots of false accusations at Musk, may followers of that party have turned on Tesla.
The only reasons I will not buy one are the one-screen-controls-all, the bland interior, and an exterior that is so common on the streets, here in So Cal. I went to a Cars & Coffee event, last Saturday at a Porsche dealership. There must've been 30+ 911s of all years on the lot and in the showroom. A used 911 GT3 RS in the showroom had a sticker with $409,000 listed on it. Of course, I had to make a video about it: You may get a chuckle from the ending.

My favorite part about the spreading of false accusations is reading the tweets and listening to the words of Musk himself lol.

I wonder if his most ardent supporters realize he’s not actually an engineer, and is basically just a source of funding. Funding that came from an inheritance, shares from PayPal after being ousted for being inexperienced, and about $38 Billion in corporate welfare from grants, loans, and contracts. Turns out the secret to getting and staying rich is just winning the birth lottery ?

That there’s this much conversation about him really shows that Tesla would be better off without him as the hype man. Their quality is (mostly) improving with each model (not you, CyberTruck lol), and more people outside the typical environmentally conscious/liberal mindset can see tangible benefits from using an EV as a daily.

I agree with most of what you said but I’m curious if you’ve ever been on the senior management side of a tech company, applied for government grants or managed capital?

Granted Elon Musk is not what most of the world believes him to be, but he’s not a passive investor like Warren Buffet either. He’s been actively involved in multiple grand slam success companies from inception or near inception.

Taking the inverse stance of his die hard supporters isn’t so different from the way they behave.

Transitioning from a sub 100M inheritance to being the richest man in the world across multiple different companies and industries that were not inthemselves inherited isn’t exactly ordinary… no matter who he has around him.

Not a Corvette.
I wonder if his most ardent supporters realize he’s not actually do any of this stuff with Trump for free, and is basically just fleecing the same people that support him.
Fixed for more accuracy. I chuckle for a good ten minutes every time I see someone state Elon is "Doing all this for free, because he loves us".

If you think for a second these mega rich or fake rich people actually care about normal people and want to do best for those said normal people, you are in for a very rude awakening.

I think a lot of people suffer from "survivorship bias" when looking at the wealthy. They tend to think everything is merit based, when it's really the result of a ton of luck, and usually existing funds that make it easier to capitalize on that luck.

It's just annoying to hear people praise corporate welfare as merit based "hard work". Tesla received Billions from our tax dollars, yet paid no taxes for almost 20 years because it wasn't profitable. It's nasty work when the same guy, who's now the wealthiest ever, comes back and cuts off veterans and social security as unnecessary spending when we've paid into our entire working lives.

But credit where credit is due. His most genius move was giving away Tesla charging patents. Got most people (myself included) thinking he was Walt Disney 2.0 when really he just made Tesla the dominant EV charging infrastructure. Exceptionally well played!

I hear ya, Corporate favoritism seems to be baked into the American system. Rising to the top of any ladder requires skill, hard work and luck. Unfortunately in America it also involves stepping on the little guy but overall it seems to be a decent system.

Hasn't it always been like this?

There was a brief time, post WWII till about the late 1970's, when wealth was pretty closely tied to production. The average CEO had about 23 times the wealth of their average employee. But then they convinced a lot of poor and middle class people that trickle down economics would be great, and for the last 40 years, the 1% keep getting richer and richer. Now the average CEO makes about 290 times as much as their average CEO.

I think that's why team politics and culture wars are pushed so hard these days. People will vote against their interests so long as they're either convinced ::insert group here:: aren't hard working Americans, are "taking away their freedoms", or the other side will get pwned lol. Musk companies got 6.4 Billion in grants in 2024 alone, but it's social security that's the real drain! Production is higher than it's ever been in history, but no... we're just not working hard enough lol. As an independent, it's kinda fun to watch history repeat itself!

Kinda.

True. It’s not worth the reply unless having fun (on here). Nobody is going to change anyone’s mind on politics on a platform like this. Certainly not mine. At least we all like cars… The Plaid was such a beast (yes pun intended) when it 1st came out. Tesla would be one of the few EVs I’d buy. I’ll put my DOGE rebate toward one ?

He so stupid and you so smart. There you go ?
We’ll try this again. Back to cars… have you ever been in a Plaid or even own a Supra?

Hmmmmmm, why the change of heart all of a sudden? I wonder why...
Just being nice & musta missed the reply message alert. Luckily someone liked a message and it showed up. Regardless, no one is going to listen to the other when everyone‘s minds are already made up.

Summary of sarcasm & truth (just 4 fun): Orange man bad. The View, Don LeMon ? and legacy media says so ?. Saving taxpayer money is bad. Fraud, waste and abuse is good. Elon suggested something should be cut, that he can‘t cut himself but only suggest, which no one can name the bad ones, not even one policy or program. Despite them all being publicly listed line by line item. Sample of what & where to find below?. You may not like what you see if you start looking ?

https://doge.gov/savings

https://dailyhodl.com/2025/02/08/72000000000-saved-by-elon-musks-doge-heres-every-item

Including tax dollars to one sided media. Would the bad orange man, Elon & America haters like Fox News or conservative media to be given millions of dollars? I think not. I certainly don’t want to pay for for any news media organization, right or left. Transparency is a beautiful thang.

https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/what-has-doge-cut-so-far

It’s that easy ?. So…. at least we all like cars and why I went back to it.
