Can't believe this ended up happening but it has been a solid 6 years with the Launch Edition Supra MKV. I got in 2019 and put on 63,000 miles on it within the last 5-6 years (Covid Years included). It was a great daily driver, I never modded my car but loved the B58 Motor. In fact loved it so much that I am now officially moving to the darkside and retiring this for the M2 CS in Velvet Blue.
Jason Cammisa had it right when he said the M2 CS 2020 was the better "Supra", I just waited 5 years later to get the S58 in the G87 but he was actually right the whole time I suppose. I just wish he had mentioned that the Supra should have been based on the hard points of an M2 and not that of the Z4.
This will be my fourth car that I own with my first being a MKIV Supra. What ended up happening was I found the MKV Supra to be way too small to use as a Daily Driver (Although I did it for 5-6 years) and the trunk mostly unusable for me and just crammed.
If anything I need to fit an International suit case and it would barely fit in a MKV. The M2 CS isn't like way bigger but it's dimmensions overall have a use case that is closer to the MKIV and therefore I'm used that and prefer having more space and a backseat. If I could daily my MKIV I would. However, with parts being incredibly difficult to acquire now it's not a viable option to use it as a daily driver
.
I don't even think the M2 CS is all that pretty but i don't think it's ugly either it's just a BMW but the interior i do like and the S58 I do like and I guess I like lots and lots of carbon which the M2 CS has.
One of the largest complaints that the M2 CS gets is that it doesn't have a cup holder, lol. Do you know what else doesn't have a cup holder? The MKIV Supra, so you could say I'm used to it.
The trunk being connected to the backset folding down is identical to the MKIV which I appreciate. I guess in short I wish the MKV supra was on the M2 platform and not the Z4 Platform. IMO the M2 platform is closer to that of the MKIV and previous Supras.
After 5-6 years of trying it out I think I can say that it was a mistake to base the MKV on the hardpoints of the Z4 and it would have suited Toyota better had been on the M2 instead. If the car ended up being a tad larger then all other previous Supra's thats okay because well the R35 is the largest Skyline.
This isn't a hate post or anything I loved my time with my MKV, I fell in love with the B58 Motor and will be retiring it to a superior S58 Engine with stronger internals and twin turbos. If I had never gotten the MKV Supra I would have never looked at BMW Motorsport M cars. While the M2 CS is extremely exepensive the metrics on the car with 523 HP kind of put it at a good value as compared to that of a Porsche GT3.
I don't want a Porsche because I find the Daily usability of the M2 better then that of a Porsche GT3 plus ever since I started driving I've always had an Inline 6 Turbo Car and I see no reason to stop now.
My Deposit is in with BMW and the car is being built right now with Velet Blue I'm on the fence about getting Carbon Ceramic or Not (I don't need it but I like the idea of less brake dust, lol) it's $8,500 add on ($20,000 to get later) The car has everything you'd need on it so everything is included pretty much just like the Supra Launch Edition was.
If anyone else is daily driving their MKV Supra how are you doing with it? If I was a single guy it would be easier I feel but with a signifant other it's been a challange at times.
