Mirror motor failure HELP

Hi all,

Just looking to see if anyone else has had the passenger side mirror motor fail? The mirror glass and blindspot monitor still work but the mirror no longer winds in to the side of the car with the button or during locking/unlocking the car.

I think this should be covered under warranty and I'm booked in for an inspection alongside a minor service next month, if anyone has had this issue before please let me know.

A 2019 still under warranty? Did you get an awesome extended warranty? I'm curious how many miles you have on it. I feel like I should dig into the settings to turn this feature off.

In most of the Europe countrys you get warranty up to 15 years or 250k KM.
It's called Toyota Relax.
Of course not every part is covered by it, but the mirror motor should be.

Basically with every annual or bi-annual inspection (depends on the car) at a Toyota dealership your waranty gets renewed for 12 / 24 months till the car is past the age of 15 years / 250k KM.
Even if you miss out on an inspection the next time you go to a dealership for it the waranty is back up.

That's a very interesting idea... but I don't think I could personally let a dealer tech put that kind of miles on my car.

Recently took it in for the simple complaint of vibration at 65-70 mph (happens everytime you hit 65 in any conditions). It took 4-5 test drives, supposedly, which according to my ODO in and out readings was 65 MILES! In 15 years this particular dealership would have "joy-riden" my car near 2000 miles! It's sad because I told the advisor and the tech both how much of a baby this car is to me. I've only put 2000 miles on it in a year of ownership, and I plan on having it until I die. As if I want some young tech ragging on it just because he has the opportunity. It seems to me techs are making too much money nowadays because in the past they would have looked at it as "time is money" and he wouldn't have wanted to spend the 1-1.5 hours it would have taken to drive 65 miles! Sorry, rant over!

It may be a transmission thing, but at least at that time, no one was able to get an answer or repair solution. Is yours an auto transmission, also?

If you actually knew what techs make, you would never in a million years even think of making that statement.

Second...Sorry to OP for hijacking your thread. Feel free not to read the rest because it does not pertain to your problem. Again sorry for the hijack and I really hope your problem gets resolved.

Yes automatic, and I read that 18 page thread, both before and again after taking it to the dealer. I'm convinced that it is more likely to be more specifically drivetrain related (like driveshaft or axles) over tires or wheels.

It's actually what I went to college for, automotive repair. In my area, I know exactly what they made then (20 years ago) and know that now it is more than it was but I am sure it is still not great... My comment was not geared toward the idea that they make A LOT of money, but it sure seems like this particular tech seems to think he is doing pretty good if he can sacrifice that kind of time to "joy riding" my car in lieu of billable hours (jobs). In my area his AVERAGE speed could not have exceeded 45MPH, so a 65 mile series of test rides cost him about 1.5 hours. Seems excessive and the only logical explanaition I can come up with, is he had a supra at his disposal and decided it was worth his time to joy ride my car, unless because they were leaving it unlocked (confirmed) and possibly the key in it(unconfirmed)...someone else took it for a joy ride? Both ideas are possible, but 1 is far more plausible.

It could NOT possibly be for the reasons I was being told it was being driven numersous times and for so many miles... which was that "they were having a hard time reporducing the issue". It has, from day 1, been at EXACTLY 65 MPH in ALL conditions and feels exactly like the "Steer assistant" warning style vibration. If he truely is a master tech as I was told he was... it would not have taken more than one 20 min drive hitting the interstate for speed to know exactly the condition I was reporting. Now if he would have drove 20 min, then tried to fix something, then drove another 20, then tried to fix something, etc... I could understand that 1.5 hours of driving.

Funny part is that he ultimately said it was a tire or wheel problem that is NOT warrantable and he road force tested all 4 and said 3 were out, but they won't give me results to go back to Michelin with... even though I know full well that those are NOT likely the reason for this vibration.

Sad part is... this happens to be the dealership I had settled on for buying my wholesale parts for my private auto shop. All of the techs/advisors involved knew I was (a small time) (NOT a master tech) mechanic and this is my baby. They especially knew this when I was explaining the issue that it had (by the precise detail) and my reluctance for even bringing it in over that issue (IE unecessary time out of my shop/garage/hands). Had it not been for the trans cooler line leak...that I in hindsight should have handled myself. I would not have even taking this car to the shop. Which they all knew this tid bit too... I told them such. To be frank I was not shy about any of this... I tried to make it a point with all these guys that I know I was being a Karen, but this is my baby. They did not seem to get it in hindsight. And much like now, it feels like all I am/was doing is wasting time talking. LOL
