Please those who know correct me if I’m wrong but my understanding is that the newer Bosch DMEs that have yet to be cracked use a different hardware encryption. So, unless they actually replace the DME, the worst that can happen for folks with tunable cars is they flash an updated software and you have to bench unlock again. Any current tune would be wiped, of course which would suck but not exactly as bad as losing ability to tune all together.

I’m not sure I see Toyota replacing DMEs to fix this. Can you imagine the mayhem?!? My biggest worry would be them screwing up the flash to fix the problem and bricking the DME.

The fact that the affected production period exactly aligns with the tuneable ECU is highly suspect...

This is my read as well.
We all maybe reading too much into it. Lol I too feel like this recall is super odd, And suspicious myself. Maybe this is Toyota’s plan to keep Supra owners from tuning their cars and less headaches for dealerships. Hahaha

Genius plan. lol ?

I can also see pressing the button twice in quick succession. I can be a little jittery sometimes, in a hurry, not fully pressing the break pedal.

I'm actually really impressed that they were able to debug this issue. Finding the reproduction case would be painstaking.

As far as registration goes, there are a lot of states in the US that will not allow registration to be renewed with unresolved safety-related recalls. Especially ones that could harm others (like reduced braking distance).

As a BMW tech, i just saw the recall and its for all B58 engines from May 2019 until 2021. Weird that it doesn't include any 4 cylinder cars produced in the same year because they are literally the same engine just two cylinders cut off.

Different ECU/Software Versions I'd suspect. Since it's not a mechanical replacement.

But it doesn't...Mar 2019 to June 2021, not June 2020. It covers every Supra manufactured to date.
It's also all BMW B58 engines, not just Supras... Most people don't tune their cars.

Ah, right! I misread in my haste. Admittedly I'm a bit twitchy when it comes to dealers. I specifically sought out an unlocked 2021 so I'm on high alert given all of the EPA madness, etc... :spaz:

Recalls are a huge deal for car manufacturers. They won't retroactively install a new ECU in your car, they'll flash the one you have. You'll probably be re-locked and require a bench unlock.
