I used similar ones on a car I use to have; they worked fine for their purpose. Adds color accent or different look to the interior.

Yep, a few times my wife asked why I shifted into first.Funny story. My last few cars have all been manuals, so when I picked up the Supra and it was time to leave the showroom garage area, I tried to put the car in gear. And couldn’t figure it out. The salesman had to show me the unlock button. Then when I parked the first time I kept trying to “shift” into park but could only find r,n and d. So I put it in n and set the parking brake.
I’ve figured it all out since then. Except the one time I tried using the gear shift to shift in manual mode. Second gear pull down ok. Third gear you obviously also pull down, except muscle memory took over and I went forward. I only use the paddles now…

Surprisingly, those rings actually aren't.... terrible. The fit isn't the greatest but the one on the iDrive controller actually looks fairly decent. I’ve had to explain it to a few people who aren’t familiar with BMW. It’s not that intuitive actually. Compared to the old fashion button and pull the lever into an actually slot. It doesn’t feel right going no where (shift lever in same place) and having the computer telling you you’re in a different transmission mode 
. It might as well have been another knob or buttons for D, N, P, R - that would have made more sense… 
I highly recommend this cluster red rice as it matched quite well with the red in the car interior. It’s made of a quality aluminum and comes in its own case. It’s available in other colors or you could paint it custom color for A91 Edition Blue etc if you like but the red compliments the gauges as an extension of what’s already there. I convinced a couple other friends here on the forums to pick them up as well and they seem to be happy with them as well. $50 on eBay or $60 on Amazon if anyone is interested,
Didn’t care for this red either so wrapped this in some brushed metal 3m film I had laying around. I think it looks pretty good
