Looks like some kind of plastic crystal-like enclosure to go around it? Looks terrible though, hell just about any mod to the stock shifter in an automatic is crap. At least with a lot of the exterior rice you don't see it while driving...

I thought it pointing out that there was an auto box sitting there where the six speed shifter should be.
