Has anyone used an oil additive/friction reducer on the B58, something like ceratec or ZX1? Is it advisable or needed?

Stick with factory recommended oil, change often.

I'm not sure how Toyota is handling warranty claims, but BMW is an absolute stickler for following the exact procedures, using exactly the correct oils, top-tier fuels only, etc. BMW will deny warranty claims in a second, if they find out that there was an oil additive used.

So, yes, as Zupra said - just stick with the factory recommendation.
