Ah, so the folks at Liqui Moly who say that the oil must meet ACEA C5 and API SN standards are lying? The last I saw, the plain old Toyota 0W-20 synthetic oil meets only one of those two (API SN). Not everyone is okay with voiding his warranty.

Must be an insane issue that gets raised regularly here.

But it's understandable because the situation is very confusing for those of us new to super thin oils.

People on forums say, "Use 5W30, I'd never put 0W20 in my Supra! NEVER!" Experts in youtube videos say "Use what the manufacturer recommends", or "It's a bad idea to go UP for the first number or DOWN for the second number." (They also say that the W stands for winter, not weight, which actually makes a lot of sense.)

Where I live, it doesn't get that cold, so I'm less concerned about moving up to 5W than someone living in, say, Minnesnowta, and keeping their car outside. But is it better for the car? No idea.

What about the whole issue with standards? The 5W30 LL Liqui Moly that people say is great to use is SL, not SN, does this even matter?

Afaik the SN rating has to do with being better for newer catalytic converters. Personally I would say stick with the OE or equivalent for a stock car with stock tune. Once tuned and making more power and with a less restrictive cat it makes sense to go 5w30 or 5w40 with LL01 or LL04 approval.

Yes, but let's not forget about the warranty. If you change your own oil and there is an engine/oil - related issue, the dealership may ask for proof of oil change. You may be able to lie and get away with it, but I'm not taking the chance.

Why would you need to lie if you keep receipts? Wait you know what, don't answer that. This is one of the same things that is CONSTANTLY brought up in all of the 5,000 F'in oil threads.

I guess you've never heard of fake or duplicate receipts.

A friend of mine owns an oil change station. He loves Mobil 1 and recommended their Euro oil for my car. He's familiar with my mods and driving style and recommended the 0w40. The factory 0w20 looked like new after 5k miles and countless data logs on a low boost. Also zero oil usage with the 0w20. We will see how the 0w40 holds up with the boost turned up.

On a side note: A lot of you have been there and done that. Please be patient with the new guys trying to learn. There is definitely a learning curve to this platform. Ask @zrk lol. He has me blocked because I have been burning his phone up for the last 6 months with my build!lol.....
