Just double checking, but did you hear this whine when you pulled away from a light? Did it feel like you lost a little power for a second? I'm trying to diagnose a similar whine with my 2020 and want to get it sorted before the warranty is out.

Also how often did it happen? I tried having my inde shop take a look but they couldn't replicate it, but of course I hear it when I'm driving home..
Hey and yes I did hear the noise when pulling away from a light or stop sign, no power loss for me though. Once the car got into a higher gear 3rd and 4th the noise went away only happened when taking off so in 1st and 2nd gear. It was a whining noise similar to a bad alternator, not too loud but noticeable, it did happen every time when I drove the car so it was consistent. I also heard the noise when stationary and giving it gas to about 1k - 2.5k rpm. The noise only appeared after about 5 minutes of driving as I tried to replicate it on cold starts but wasn't successful. After they replaced the oil pump I no longer hear the noise and have tried numerous times to replicate it since the fix but it's all good now.

But yeah I would take it to Toyota, put the car back to stock and have them address your concern. I love independent performance shops but when warranty is still in play it only makes sense to have the dealership cover repairs. Also are you able to measure your oil level ? Since it was the oil pump for me. And what area do you hear the noise coming from ?

Did you notice it more when you had the A/C running? I'll need to drive my car a couple more times to pinpoint the sound before taking it to the dealer but I could almost swear it was coming from around the area where the alternator/compressor/drive belt live. I'll try to see if my car can measure its oil too just to be sure.

No noticed it the same with the a/c on or off. Get that addressed before warranty expires !

I gotta fight with my dealership about it. They aren’t very experienced with the vehicle.

MY 2021. BD 7/20. 34k miles. It was in New Jersey for most of its life.

I assume your car doesn't read oil too. Either contact Toyota directly and let them know your dealership is denying you service and that you're worried about your cars health as-well as your powertrain warranty expiring. Or find another dealership who will help you out if there is another nearby. And of course before you take it in make sure it's stock (no tune, downpipe, intake etc) cause they would then deny any sort of diagnosis and blame the modifications for not reading your engine oil correctly.

Thank you for this! I tried one more time with the dealership.

I scheduled an appointment for Thursday. It is not reading oil levels at all. I explained the exact issue this time and the required fix and let them know about dropping the subframe and need the frame Torque to Yield screws.
