Hi,

If you take a look at the grill and the intake design, looks like the plastic cover is exactly in place to cover air:

Not sure why Toyota put this cover in place, maybe for safety and avoid having debris and water out of the intake, or to protect the heat exchanger behind? Haven't seen any post regarding this part, like a cover delete or drilling holes to allow more air to pass.

With the head of this season in CA and AZ, opening this cover would be beneficial to allow more fresh air go though right? Does anyone already made something like that?

On the passenger side is the radar sensor thingy behind that. Driver side is for keeping it symmetrical.

Even if the radar wasn't there, opening it would not make for better cooling. Grilles on performance cars are strategically opened to catch air from high-pressure zones on the car's frontal area and expanding ducts are used behind them to efficiently pass air over heat-exchangers. Opening this area entirely and ducting it to the coolers likely would both increase drag and decrease cooling efficacy.

Thanks for the pictures, it's very clear now, I wasn't sure on which side it was.

ahh gotcha!. thanks!
so wouldnt be much of a problem to cover it. like a banner?
The front of your rearview mirror has a forward recognition camera(lane keep assist functions), rain sensor for auto wipers, and a light sensor for the auto high beam headlight function. Dont cover the area with anything. Make a banner that leaves that spot open would be best way

Thanks! I got lazy, didn't write all the sensors, didn't know it was going to lead to "covering" it questions :)

Yes, don't cover it!
