I’ve read different opinions that when in sport/+ that stock suspension stiffens - is that true and if so how does that happen and how is that affected by aftermarket setups?
It does, which is part of the point of Sport mode.
Aftermarket performance setups bypass the OEM intervention, altogether.

Thanks. That’s what I thought. do you get any code errors and/or can that be coded out?

You should def do the procedures just to make sure. Here you go:

High temp:

Low temp:

What do you think about flushing both systems with distilled water and water wetter? Would getting the antifreeze out help in this car? It did on my GR86 and GRC, dropping temps by 15F or so on 90F ambient.

So I was thinking of giong this route with the ohlins too. I don’t need a full blown race car but want better handling on the track for the few days I go.

RSR cancelers did the job for me. Car looks like showroom on the dash and display other than my CEL with my catless dp. I used to monkey around with setups between seasons, change my pads, etc… Now I don’t mess with it. My car feels like she’s on rails in town and on the track. Sport button only changes the sound and shifts if you’re not manually rowing through the gears.

This Supra is about as close as I’ve ever gotten to a true road & track car. Did the same with my MX5 & actually removed stuff to make her more street-able again. I usually fall too far down the rabbit hole. Next thing you know, I’m trailering my car, storing it near a track, the list goes on. Most will go full blown race car at least once. Thousands of dollars later, you can find some really nice project cars for sale once they’ve lost their appeal. Sold my gutted race build S2K for a fraction of what I put into it ? but it was fun doing it, gotta admit.

I was researching suspensions for my eclipse and this came up on one of the dsm sites.
Usually you get what you pay for. Hence I went with the Ohlins for their reputation, quality & reliability. Mega happy I did :)

Funny you mention that. I’d frequently ask about better coolant/antifreeze alternatives to the race team peeps. They blew it off like snake oil. I mean they were willing to take my money and do anything I‘d find in a magazine or blog. But luckily they were busy and I had a budget ? I guess if it ain’t broke, I didn’t need to fix it… but I do like that question.

It is really growing. Have to admit it really tickles my ego when I check on where I am on the lap time registry. Over 263 posted times at VIR for example.
Dude…. I love this! Hope more peeps get them. I didn’t think that aspect of it would so much fun. And ability to overlay data with other drivers.

I've been looking into Ohlins a bit more and it seems like the general consensus is that people think the spring rates are a bit too soft. Have you ever switched to swift springs? I think the ideal setup would be Ohlins R/T and swift/hyperco springs from my reading.

Barry at 3DM can put together this exact setup with any spring rate you want and will revalve the dampers to match. He'll also add helpers/camber plates/etc as you want.

Nosa. If I was more stiff I’d be skipping like a stone on turns. I do have sway bars, all the SPL goodies and on their track setup recs. So I’m really impressed with them for Sebring, Homestead and back & forth to the track. I keep saying I’ll get a pro in my car for proper setup. When I do, I’ll post it. But it won’t be for everyone because each car (parts) and track conditions are different.

If you are building a dedicated track car, competing, or have a race team to make the adjustments & recs - I’d use what they‘re using. Like Thunder Bunny Racing in Greenville SC. So glad I don’t live close to there ? If you’re knowledgeable with suspension setups and doing this solo - JRZs from Jackie PHD would be my choice or

follow what Wes is doing with his. Ideally you’ll make adjustments for each track you’re driving at and the conditions. Those more advanced setups are sweet for sure!

Gotcha! Makes total sense. I'll reach out to Jackie and 3DM to get some insight. I'll primarily be on Pitt race and NE tracks. Pitt race is preeeeetty damn smooth....although Pittsburgh is quite the opposite haha. So maybe the default spring rates might be the go to. I don't have any SPL goodies yet but I plan on getting a few to go along with the coils. Are you using any sort of camber plate? I know Vorshlag has a pretty good deal, $4k for Ohlins R/T + suspension signal cancellers + vorshlag camber plates. Seems like my best option.

Just an FYI, I haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet.

The JRZ RS Pros are really tickling my fancy. I'm trying to determine the feasibility of remote reservoirs, including mounting, charging with Nitrogen, etc. I'm not sure if it's a jump I want to make on my car just yet... but buy once cry once is a motto of mine.

Can't argue with the results the Supra folks up here are having with MCS 2-ways. Results speak for themselves and AR-Motorsports seems like a good dealer to purchase through for future support and setup support.

There's more to it than that. I.E. in my last track car I used Evan's waterless coolant. While the operating temperature was technically higher, that was okay because, with no water in the system, You don't get the pressures, expansion, and air / vapor pockets, or hot spots that You get with water.. Everyone focuses on keeping coolant temp low to avoid these things. With Evans, they're are non-issue.
I had no water to turn acidic, so after 3 years of driving, my cooling system looked brand new.
I originally started using it because the end tanks on my radiator were plastic and with a max pressure of seven psi, there were no concerns of damaging them. The other benefits were just a bonus.
I'm not saying to use it or not, just stating that there are multiple things to think about once you start looking for ways to keep the car running cooler and safer.
Lower temps are only part of the problem.

So I may go the route of ohlins, cancellor/camber plates (just do it all at the same time) but as far as what to do first - I’ve still got the stock tires and have a few more events left on them but do most see better handling going with better tires first or does the suspension make a bigger difference?

I’ve read a lot on here about better tires for track and will be researching again when I need to replace so maybe better to do it all at the same time? But also I don’t want to have a dedicated set of track wheels - still trying to get the best bang/$ and be a “semi” daily.
TIA for all the info
