Luckily advanced group is pass anywhere with a point by. That said the only time I would pass there is if someone missed the braking point for T1 and way overshot, then pointed me by. T3 to T4 is much easier.

Back when I ran Lemons I would pass there frequently using late braking and taking the inside line. I'd agree it can be quite fun, and CMP is a really good track for door to door stuff.
My fav by far is driving with a group that has no point by required. You can do it if you like or want someone to pass. And that’s how it should be. Once comfortable passing anywhere and being passed anywhere.

Maybe you should be racing rather than doing track days?

i think Mark is a racing veteran. He probably got tired of the spotlight, the Monaco yachts , and the supermodels and settled down for a more grounded life

racing is 2,293,102,285,120x more expensive than track days. Even if you go a few times a month.
I race SCCA for over 20 years, that's not quite true. Once you own all the hardware (tow rig, trailer, tools, safety gear, etc) it's only a little more expensive. Unless you intend to win.

Exactly what somebody that would be scared and complain about open passing events would say. You would make a great instructor.
I raced for 20+ years. So I'm probably not afraid of passing. But I'd rather take that risk with racers than track day heroes!

Nah, I’ve done time trials. That’s fun too.

I’ll only do no point by required track days with really good groups of drivers down here in the winter. All are at Bryan (Razor), Bob (Rock Sand) level or above. Many of the full open track day are no point bys required, race teams are there as well. They don’t let anyone just sign up and do em. You’d be surprised and like it for sure!

Besides, if in doubt, you can still give point bys.

Post track weekend checks.

my Right front tire is gone and has wires exposed. (19 inch staggered with Contis street tires)

I need to order a new set of front brake pads. will replace and leave the rotors. They seem to be in good shape.

This might be the best time to buy the squared set of 18 inch wheels and get RE7s.

time to find a promotions on wheels. 🥴🥴🥴

Check with some of the Supra GT4 teams in the area. They use 18x11 Konigs and can be had for ~1k or less. Oftentimes they'll rotate out old wheels and/or are leaving the platform.

Time to go to real tires that can handle the heat. No surprise that those tires look like that.

You potatoed the tyres!

contis are an excellent all rounder road tyre but they dont like too much heat on repetition. If you are unable to run two sets of rims for track days and dont drive the car so much. A good compromise for track and road is the sport cup 2's from michelin. They arent too bad in the wet for a semi and dont mind a few heat cycles.

this is an interesting point that I’m researching right now.
Based on my initial reading the RE7s are exceptional for things like time attack where you go for a few flying laps, but will it take the beating of 25min of HPDE?

It seems that the Cup2s heat up more gradually?

there is also the breakaway point warnings hahahah. Am I ready to go full on REs or transition to Cup2s for a more gradual learning curve?

so many questions. LOL.

my initial plan was to buy a set of Squared wheels and wrap them on RE7s but not so sure anymore LOL

It seems based on the consensus here on the forum that if I am willing (which I am) to go for new wheels the best route is RE7s than the way more expensive and harder Cup2s. And that if I want to keep my current wheels Cup2s is the better option.

RE71RS.

V730's now that they are available in 295 could also work for you. Not as fast as RE71RS, but take heat better through a longer session. Also a screaming deal at $250/tire.

Cup2's are crazy expensive and not better in any way. Just don't.

I did this comparison video awhile back. Not scientific at all but at least gives you a ballpark.
