One thing I learned going through hpde was sometimes you just hit a point in your progression where it takes watching and feeling the car with someone else in control for your brain to click how it works with more speed
Yes, this has worked for me in the past actually, maybe its time to hand the keys to someone else. My problem is I get massive motion sickness in the passenger seat in about 2 laps and it stays with me the whole day. I guess I can use a scopolamine patch.

So I did watch the blayze video for Buttonwillow Raceway CW13 here

It is perfect. I liked it alot, need to look in to how to get training from Dion von Moltke.
Good video, covers different lines for low/high hp cars. Another mistake a lot of drivers make is at sweeper costing them a lot of time.

which mistake is that at the sweeper? Like not opening up prior to apexing the first S?

Yea, not opening up enough prior to rotation to get that straight shot out.
My favorite is getting on the full throttle.. juuuust keeping from going too far out, juuust bringing it back the right enough to cut the left hander and brake before the hill - all without lifting. It's almost scary fast. If someone isn't doing that, then they need to get on the gas a bit sooner. But it's not for the feint of heart ?

you mean not lifting from sweeper exit all the way to sunset (last corner)? I’ve done that in the Gr86, not sure about supra…it’ll probably hit 140 by the time it gets to the brake zone.

I think kaj got sweeper mixed up with riverside. His description I’m picturing flat from riverside apex, light lift for the kink and braking for phil hill.

Yeah I thought so as well...I ain't going through riverside without lifting...I am not sure if its possible in anything less than 2G cornering capability or under 200hp.

I agree that you need to find the right instructor preferably from TT group. I instruct, for all the local clubs. NASA,PCA (have national instructor certification) Proauto as well as a national teen safety driving school (BRAKES) and took Nasa comp school all with the Supra, so have provisional race license , just do not have a full race car to go into race group. So Agee there is a lot of variation with instructors and some are really not more advanced then Hpde 2 or 3 levels. What helped me was getting one TT level or race group level drivers to go out with me as well as letting them drive my car and I right seat to see how they are getting through some of the sections. Once you are competitive in TT then it is about really perfecting the line. Smooth inputs on and of brakes/ throttle and using all the tack. They are all fine refinements and hitting your marks every time. Race school would really not help as much as the above as it is more about wheel to wheel race craft. So I am happy to help any of Supra guys in Az.

Brake later, get on the gas faster. A lot of my recent time drops are honestly just more balls.

I dropped a bunch at VIR this year by just having courage (and some skill) to carry 135 up the esses, high 90's through 10 and full throttle down hog pen. that is about 4 seconds

On smaller tracks, try not to bully the track but be more flowy.

Like most have said- race schools are more about wheel to wheel safety, track awareness and some race craft. To be a successful TT you kind of need to be a nut. When we compete with NASA or SCCA they basically tell the rest of the HPDE to get out of our way because we are coming through.

everyone is almost too generous with sharing videos on you tube and such. Watch someone's video that is faster than you and see what speed they are carrying in what sections. then compare.

I also ask to follow faster people in TT warm ups or in between sessions. Past weekend i was a small weird track that is seldom run. I had only been there once. Asked a local fast boi to follow him and he said sure. we went out swapping positions and lead follow for a session. He pointed out a couple things i could do differently and I dropped over a second. Basically, i condensed 6 sessions of figuring it out myself to one session. 3rd fastest time of the weekend out of everyone only my second time at this track

You are not the first person I've heard say that about Skippy schools, and I've heard it about Bondurant as well. The folks I've met that liked them went in with a VERY narrow focus - getting their license quickly. They were quick already, and the "teaching" part of the school was waaaay below their skill level.

The best weekend I ever had on track as a student was with a personal coach. I arranged with a local track day provider that I was bringing my own coach, vs using one of their instructors. I spent the whole weekend with him, so we talked before sessions, stayed in the car for a good 10-15 min after a session for debriefs, and then just shooting the sh!t over dinner as well.
If you want to do it in your car, go do autoX

If you want a proper school experience that will teach you ungodly vehicle control then I would recommend O'Neil Rally School up in NH.

it's where pastrana, block, (me), etc went to learn.

After you learn to be fast without traction, I'd say skip barber at ViR and ask for Adam
I did Skip at LRP for my lic. Many yrs ago. If you want to become faster on the track the best way by far is a personal coach and seat time on a closed course.

I plan to do ONeil for the rally experience and because I live so close. Auto cross will certainly help you to become familiar with the handling characteristics of your car but circuit racing is just too different for much else to translate.

The person above me accidently called it Sweeper. I didn't mention it by name as I was referring to the video. Flat out from *Riverside* to the braking point before the right, going to the hill. It can be done but it's scary. 99 out of 100 times I get nervous and lift a bit at the left-hander.
As for *Sweeper* then through the esses, into sunset, yes. Flat out also. ????

Not a Corvette.
I miss buttonwillow. I do not miss summer there though. I remember my tires sticking to the pavement there in the paddocks in the summer.

Lots of memories there...

Good
