Here is a picture of it if anyone wants to see why this is an issue.

Wow dude! Are they supposed to be that spaced out from the rotors? I don’t remember them in my other cars having that much berth ?… Maybe you can bend them in a bit? I’d definitely visit your local race shop! Thx 2 your post I remembered to buy steel brake lines. They’re inexpensive and a no brainer if you want to track regularly. Doesn’t solve the rocks n my rotors issue but you’ll get a better pedal feel and piece of mind keeping those lines intact.

Pic of wife’s GTI front and rear rotors with shields next to rotors. My Supra is in the shop getting goodies put on. But I’m really curious to check it out when I get it back.

Yep, thats just how they are. Not a great design at all. All my other cars heat shields look normal like your GTIs. I tried to bend them but they wont bend without a hammer. So got to rip them off to make that happen. I might tear into it this weekend and see what I can modify to make it better.

Bringing back an old thread if anyone is around..

Any follow-up on a good solution? I plan to tear into it this week and bend things up a bit (if clearances allow) and you all don’t have a different idea.
(Planning to keep them in place for now)

Thanks all!

I haven’t had the issue yet. No rocks in my rotors. And I’ve spent 3 track weekends so far full of rocks and rubber. I’ll definitely bend mine closer if it does happen though. Watch, because I said that, it’s going to happen now ?

This thread jinxed me, I read it on my lunch break, then today driving home from office I hear such a horrible noise turns out to be stone between rotor and shield ?

Sorry @Chappers - I did the same thing on Reddit last week; posted and the next dude replied and got a rock for the first time after reading post. So.. sorry ?

We’ve had it happen twice this first week of our 23’ and only once in the 20’ in 2 years of ownership.
Both this week have been “too stuck” to reverse out -popped a wheel and fished instead.

Im no engineer but will chime in once I get things apart and see what clearances work out.
