I recognized that 70s haircut, stoner’s stache’ and goatee/neck beard combo a mile away. Sigh, if only his Supra wasn't so slow he’d have gotten away.

They (LE) do things like this every now and then. We’d run into people at the track (in their beater or their friend’s car) who have reported getting their car impounded for being at a meet that escalated.

Most of the people getting caught up in this aren’t “car people”. They’re “hood people”…with cars. The stories all have reports of drugs and weapons also confiscated.

The media likes to bucket everyone together. Spend any amount of time out here in Tampa or Orlando, and you’ll see there’s like tiers of “street scene” ranging from low hp FWD tuners that just want to blast music and smoke in a parking lot to what you see here up to actual enthusiasts who also happen to choose to race on the street (that end of the spectrum is much more discreet).

Alcohol impaired accidents and fatalities far exceed that of street racing or takeovers. But the headlines and video of takeovers gets the mainstream worked up. No one records themself running a red light drunk and causing an accident. Doesn’t have the same social appeal, I suppose.
