and you mentioned that since you left, the car has been testing with more power yeah?

Assuming the 0-60 in 3.9s was with 350hp, 3060lbs?

So 380-400hp with 3100lbs should be comparable?

I've heard the Z4 is 1500kg or so.
Car was 2950 and had right around 350hp iirc when it did 3.8s, unless I'm misremembering, but I think that was early on.

Doing rough p/w calculations puts it in the same ballpark if we assume power bump at ~3100lbs

Even being conservative, it should be pretty quick.

So it did 3.8 with the regular B58?

That actually makes sense if you really think about it. If the car weighed 2950 pre-iron block, 3100-ish makes sense post-iron block. Idk about the specifics, but Iā€™d imagine thatā€™s why the car is testing with more power now than it initially had when A70 got to ride in it

edit: not sure how much an iron block would weigh vs aluminum. So maybe Iā€™m way off lol

Being faster than both GTS Porsches in 0-60 is quite the feat
I have no idea why the Porsche website posts the 718 GTS 0-60 as 4.4 secs as the default time but if you look at the technical specs that they provide for both the Manual and PDK, the Manual version has a 0-60 of 4.4 secs and the PDK version has a 0-60 time of 3.9 secs (which is the more fair comparison to the MKV Supra with its 8AT).

Using the 718 GTS w/ PDK as the benchmark with its curb weight of 1400kg, Max HP of 365hp and Max Torque of 317 ft/lbs, if the MKV Supra can maintain the same 1400kg curb weight while also providing a higher Max HP and Torque figure (presuming over 380 HP and 369 ft/lb of torque like the Z4), this will be a very formidable car on the track.

In an interview with Autocar at the same event, Tada alluded to a torque figure "on a par with that which we have with the F-Series from Lexus." That means something in the range of 389 pound-feet, the torque output from both the Lexus RC F and GS F. The 5.0-liter V8 in the Lexus coupe and sedan makes that figure between 4,800 and 5,600 rpm.

I think it's doable.

ok another question for you @A70TTR,

stupid as it may be one of the things i admire about the new Miata and the Toyobaru twins for that matter is that when you pop the hood you see engine and not an ugly piece of black plastic covering everything up.

any insight on what they are thinking with regards to this?

I was never shown the engine/engine bay when on the project, so all I know is from the pictures that have been posted by other thus far. I feel the same as you, but ultimately it looks like the MKV has a boring plastic cover unless they decide to spice things up a bit (add some styling). Either way, it will never look as cool and nice as the 2J or even something like the Miata you mentioned.

Do you believe that Toyota would be permitted to have more power in the Supra then BMW with the z4 at launch ? My guess is that they have a mutual agreement to stay equal so that the z4 and supra stay within range of each other. Thoughts ?

IMO, equal power or maybe slightly less due to the Supra being lighter.

my understanding is that bmw is content with the Z4 and feels it's a great car and is not really concerned with the Supra so long as the cars are fairly comparable. the Z4 is a convertible and as such has far more structural bracing, as where the Supra is hardtop.

(still curious as to what happened with the CF roof though; is it still there under the camo? Maybe this is part of the reason why the a-pillars are black... or did they drop it due to cost?)
